Wideout Lymon likely to miss freshman year on academic snag
Michael Pointer at the Indy Star has learned that star Purdue WR recruit Selwyn Lymon will miss his freshman year of elibility at Purdue thanks to a "B" grade he earned but never received credit for when a sophomore at Fort Wayne North High. This doesn't exactly torpedo the Boilers' high hopes for the 2005 season, but it's not welcome news, as Lymon was their No. 1 in-state recruit and a No. 7 national pick at rivals.com.
My take is that this won't have a major impact on Tiller's gameplanning for this fall, but it sure would have been great to see this kid get some reps and show what he's got as early as possible in his career. It's a shame Lymon's GPA is as low as it must be not to meet even NCAA baseline requirements, but maybe this setback will motivate him to hit the books as hard as the tackling dummies (which he can't use with the team this season, either).
