Vols were ready to forfeit game at LSU

Had tomorrow night's game at LSU not been postponed due to hurricane Rita, the Tennessee Vols were ready to forfeit the game to protect their players and fans, according to the Sporting News.

Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton said Friday the No. 10 Volunteers were prepared to take such action "if we felt like it would be unfair to our student-athletes and not safe for our student-athletes."

Tennessee pushed to have the game rescheduled sooner rather than later so as to not have to send student trainers and staff into the hurricane's path on Friday afternoon.

As FanBlogs previously reported, the game has been moved to Monday evening.
