Vanderbilt player shot

Vanderbilt receiver George Smith was shot in the right arm Sunday morning around 2 a.m., according to The Tennessean.

Vanderbilt's vice chancellor of student affairs, David Williams insists that the shooting was not football related.

"Somebody said that they heard this was a rival football thing," said David Williams, Vanderbilt's vice chancellor of student affairs. "Our players didn't even know who these guys were. It wasn't that. Our guys asked them to leave, and then told them they had to leave."

The incident took place in an on-campus, residential dorm.

Police are investigating and the two suspects are reported to not be Vanderbilt students.

Despite his injury, Smith could play Saturday when the Commodores host in-state rival MTSU.
