UW Huskies backup QB has brain tumor removed; career over
Multiple sources including UW Alumni Association Newslinks report that backup QB Johnny DuRocher's brain surgery to remove a “benign” tumor went well, but his gridiron career is over. Interestingly, DuRocher still plans to try out for the UW baseball team in 2007. Unrelated exams conducted after a concussion DuRocher suffered against Stanford revealed the tumor and led to the successful surgical procedure.
While DuRocher and his team are no doubt relieved that the procedure went well and his full recovery seems assured, the Huskies are now in a bind where experienced quarterbacking is concerned. The Seattle Times noted Carl Bonnell is the only returning player with game experience while a redshirt and true freshman commitment from California will vie for playing time.
