The end of Clemson vs. Auburn?

According to sources at both schools, Auburn has asked Clemson to cancel the 2006 and 2007 games. Auburn AD David Housel says that it has nothing to do with Clemson at all - that it's just a simple way for Auburn to get seven home dates per season.

Whatever the reasons, it's wrong for Auburn to back out on this series. If memory serves, this will be at least the second ACC match-up that Auburn has cancelled - after nixing a home & home series with Florida State.

If cancelling dates against big time opponents is what Auburn has to do, I guess it's just what Auburn has to do....

Word out of Blacksburg is that Auburn is trying to cancel a home and home with Virginia Tech also - probably for the same reason.

I forgot to mention that the supposed reasons for Auburn scratching the FSU series involved more home games but the hard feelings over the Terry Bowden situation at Auburn and not wanting to face his dad at FSU were mentioned in scuttlebutt at the time.

If Auburn not too careful, they'll soon be running away from games with Troy State.

    Speaking of Troy State...

Troy State and another school were mentioned in the Auburn article in the Greenville (SC) News as being other Out of Conference schools looking to duck scheduled games with Clemson.

Apparently Troy State changed ADs and the new administration in the Athletic Dept. hadn't even seen the contract for the Clemson game.

Pretty soon the Teletubbies will be buying out their conference schedule too.

The reports I've seen indicate that the Tigers are trying to get some more home games to pay off a $30 million facilities renovation. Now, I'm not one to compare Alabama and Auburn, but the Tide is in the middle of a $100 million facilities reconstruction, and haven't had to cancel any of their games.

Either the Auburn Boosters didn't have quite the year with the crops that they expected, or there's something else going on here.

I have no idea what that means, but it can't be good.

Hmm... LSU is raising ticket prices to raise money -- interesting concept. I wonder why they didn't just buy out some of their away games.
