ACC Players of the Week
The Atlantic Coast Conference released its list of Players of the Week for the games during the week ending October 22.
Charlie Whitehurst of Clemson was named offensive back of the week for his performance in the Tigers' 37-7 win over Temple. North Carolina's Brian Chacos was named offensive lineman of the week. Chacos graded out at an 86 and had 10 knockdown blocks. He also recovered a fumble in the Tar Heels' 7-5 win over Virginia.
Vince Hall of Virginia Tech was named ACC defensive lineman of the week for his performance in the win against Maryland. Hall led the team with 14 tackles (one sack) and broke up a pass. Wake Forest's Alphonso Smith garnered defensive back of the week honors for his play in the 27-19 win over N.C. State. Smith returned an interception for a touchdown, stopped the Wolfpack on a fake punt, and returned a punt 22 yards. He also leads the ACC in passes defended for the season
Wake's Ryan Plackemeier was named the conference's special teams player of the week. He punted 8 times for 410 yards which was an average of 51.2 yards and a net of 45.3 yards. Plackemeier broke the school record for longest punt with an 82-yarder late in the game. That kick is the 4th longest all-time in conference history. He also is the best NCAA career punter, with an average of 44.9 yards a kick.
Greg Carr of FSU was named rookie of the week for his performance against Duke. Carr caught 6 passes for 95 yards and 3 touchdowns.
