ACC Championship Semi-Finals set

For those that advocate playoffs in college football, look no further than the Atlantic Coast Conference.

With just two weeks remaining in the season, the ACC is set pair the top two teams in both the Atlantic and Coastal divisions in a run up to the conference championship game in Jacksonville.

In the Atlantic.... it's Clemson vs. Boston College... this coming weekend. The winner goes to the championship game - no questions asked.

In the Coastal... it's Virginia vs Virginia Tech... in two weeks. Again, the winner goes to the championship game - no questions asked.

Two thoughts:

1) Playoff advocates should take this, rejoice, and SIMMER DOWN.

2) ACC expansion has been celebrated and degenerated fairly evenly by the pundits. At yet, in this run-up to the ACC championship game, you have two traditional ACC teams (Virginia and Clemson) squaring off against two ACC expansion teams (Boston College and Virginia Tech). At least this time, the ACC looks like its getting the last laugh.

My prediction... this is still weeks away, but I think I'll forecast Clemson & Virginia in the ACC Championship game.

The ACC was AWFUL at the start of the season. The ACC was by far the WORST BCS conference the first couple weeks into the season.

Now, I think the ACC is improving as teams step up and play solid football. I don't think the ACC is the worst anymore.

Most of the pundits seem to rank the ACC in the middle of the pack among BCS conferences (behind SEC, PAC-10, & Big-12).

I think that's fair. Looking at the ACC's out-of-conference record versus BCS schools, currently the ACC is 7-8. That seems like pretty good parity. It'll be fun to look back on the records after the bowls.

    RazzMaTazz:

If you include Notre Dame into the BCS schools the ACC is 9 - 8 against BCS schools. Since Notre Dame is directly tied into the BCS, they should be included. Does Duke get a win over the Catholics on Saturday? I hope so.
