Air Force accepts Armed Forces Bowl invitation
For the first time since 2002, the Air Force Academy is going to a bowl game - and a fitting one at that.
On Monday afternoon, the Falcons accepted a bid to play on ESPN in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 31 in Fort Worth, Texas.
“It’s special,” Air Force senior quarterback Shaun Carney said. “It’s something that we planned on doing. It was part of our goals at the beginning of the season. Every Christmas we’d keep telling ourselves, we’re not going to do this again” and not go to the postseason.
“Finally we have the opportunity.”
Air Force will face a to-be-determined opponent from the Pac 10 or Big 10 conferences.

BYU has not been released from the BCS, according to the reports during the BYU Utah game on Versus this past week.
BYU will go to the Las Vegas Bowl if they don't go to a BCS Bowl. Utah and the Las Vegas Bowl have a great relationship and history together, so teh Las Vegas Bowl will take Utah if they can't take BYU.
For BYU to go to a BCS Bowl the following must all happen:
Big East/ACC/Big 10 all without a second team in the top 14:
1) Oklahoma win or stay in top 14 with a loss.
2) BC loss or VT drop out of top 14
3) Hawaii loss
4) Tennessee win & LSU stay in top 14
5) Oregon/BYU jump to #14
6) ASU win/Stay in top 14
7) USC win/ Stay in top 14
8) BYU move to #18 or higher
9) BYU jump to #14 or selected over Illinois, Clemson and Wisconsin for a BCS Bowl.OR BYU in the top 14:
1) Oregon loss
2) Tennessee loss
3) Hawaii loss
4) ASU loss
5) Oregon loss
6) BC loss
7) BYU in the top 14 and selected over a host of BCS eligible teams. These two routes to eligibility appear mutually exclusive, and the only way for BYU to be guaranteed a spot is for both to happen.
The only reason I post this is because BYU has not yet been released by the BCS, as shown by the fact that they have not been invited to the Las Vegas Bowl.
