Saban lectures Tide fans: Try to have some class
Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban spent part of his Monday press conference trying to find a politically correct way of saying what he really thinks: Crimson Tide football fans have no class.
The head coach of the 22nd-ranked Crimson Tide spoke out on fan behavior at his Monday press conference in the wake of the aftermath of Saturday’s overtime loss to Georgia, where fans in the UA student section threw cups and other objects onto the field where Georgia players were celebrating their victory.“I don’t think it’s classy to throw something on somebody else,” Saban said. “I don’t think it’s classy to call somebody’s house at night and complain about something. I don’t think any of that’s classy.
“If anybody out there that’s our fans and our supporters don’t think all the coaches here … work hard and want to win as bad as anybody, as well as the players, trust and believe in that. Trust and believe in doing it right. If you want to do something, do something positive to support the program or don’t do anything at all.”
...
“I think class is a real critical part of any organization,” Saban said. “It’s a word that I see comes up on our [stadium video screen] board when we do some of our traditional stuff here as a part of our university, as a part of our football tradition.
“I think class is an important part of what we do in terms of how we represent our state, our institution, and I want this program to always reflect class in how we go about doing things. … I just wanted to emphasize that to those out there, to anyone who doesn’t understand that. It’s important that we reflect that in everything we do.”
And when Nick Saban -- o ye of Coonass-gate fame -- thinks you have no class, that's saying something.

Autigerman with how shitty AU has played this year, it would show some common sense to not bring up Bama losing one game. Last time I checked they were two games ahead of AU in the SEC west.
It's about time that someone in that state figured out how to show class....too bad it has to be the biggest liar in the US.

Saban isn't a liar
he just figured out that college coaches can't coach in the NFL
Bobby Petrino is learning that lesson now
He was offered 4 million, coach in a school with great tradition, and go back to the game he really loves, college football
alabama mafia LOL

Are you talking about the same way it got quiet after AU lost to Moo U?
What's there to be quiet about? We lost a good game. So what... There's no doubt in my mind it's going to happen again.
BTW- with some of the things that have went on in the past in the "jungle"... maybe you shouldn't be calling the kettle black.
WE ATL
You are correct... It did happen in the student section. Not that I condone it; but what do you expect from a bunch of drunk college kids who probably started drinking at around 9:00 that morning.I was there, and I saw it first hand. Let the record show, I was embarrased. I've been to a lot of Bama games and I've never seen that type of thing happen before. I hope it never happens again.

Rammer: Yea, kids will be kids. I admitted on another thread that I threw oranges at Florida when I was in school, but they had pelted us the year before at Florida Field. Throwing bottles is very dangerous though--not that the kids did that. But throwing anything leads to throwing other things--bottles, girlfriends, throwing up.... :-)

Mr. McAteer how can you state that Saban isn't a liar, by using that fact that he returned to college football? Do you remember him stating that he wasn't going to leave LSU for the NFL, then within a month (I believe it was a shorter period of time than that) he left LSU for the Dolphins. Do you remember him stating that he wasn't going to leave the Dolphins to go coach in college, then that same week he left the Dolphins to go to Alabama?
Are you could say that the way the Dolphins play they could be considered not an NFL team, and with how much boosters pay their Alabama athletes and the lack of a graduation rate from Alabama, that they are technically not a college?
If you were a betting person, the safe bet would be to listen to anything that Saban stats and bet large amounts that he will do the opposite.
If you don't like the term liar for Saban, dictionary.com has some other terms for you: cheat, con artist, con man, deceiver, deluder, dissimulator, equivocator, fabler, fabricator, fabulist, false witness, falsifier, fibber, jive turkey, maligner, misleader, perjurer, phony, prevaricator, promoter, storyteller, trickster
You can decide which way to go...
Saban is a deceiver
Saban is a deluder
Saban is a fabulist
Saban is a jive turkey
Saban is a storytellerSABAN IS A LIAR!

Im not talking about it getting quiet. Im talking about the large number of no class fans throwing things at the players. Frankly makes me sick.
Your winning tradition has brought you alot of fair weather classless fans, they dont need to stoop to the classless acts of LSU fans throwing piss on us Auburn fans for beating their team.
The same sort of fans which booed Brandon Cox at our game. Coach Tubbs did the same thing hammering the fans after booing Cox. Im just saying that its about time the coach said something.
Your going to lose some and win some. Winning is the easy part.Losing with class, both teams need to learn that one.Big Tide said:

Reminds me of those old photos of Coach Bryant wearing a helmet onto the field in a game against Georgia Tech because they were throwing whisky bottles at him. Nobody likes to lose, but anyone that hasn't been impressed with the product Coach Saban has put on the field needs to re-evaluate their expectations. He's got a coaching staff that has never worked together, coaches having to deal with moving their families to a new town, kids learning a new system and a demanding schedule. He's done a hell of a job up to this point in my opinion. As far as being a liar, come on guys, let's give that a rest. Coaches are hired guns and they look out for number 1 first. It's a business, not husband wife for goodness sake. If your employer knew that a rival company wanted your services and you hadn't decided whether or not you wanted to entertain an offer, then you would most certainly tell your boss that you were staying on the job, etc. But if that rival offered you a better deal then you would most likely take it. I heard Mal Moore speak recently at a Red Elephant Club meeting and he gave a fairly detailed account of the entire affair. Besides the obvious differences in coaching young men out of high school compared to coaching millionaires, the thing that bothered Saban most about the NFL was the down time in the offseason. For the most part the entire enterprise just shuts down and I think Saban could not adjust to not being involved with his coaches and players 24/7, 365 days a year. Saban was also smart enough to know what he was working with in Miami and that another non-playoff year would do even more damage to his reputation. He saw what Pete Carroll was doing, what Spurrier was doing and he wants to be the first Div. 1 coach to win a national championship at different schools. Four million a year wasn't bad either.

Yes, you were talking about it getting quiet since the loss to UGA. I know that because you said so yourself in post #5...
Anyways... Like I said, this is the first time I have ever witnessed this type of thing in T-Town.
Bama fans always treat the visting fans with respect. I've seen it over and over again.BTW- Are students cosidered fair weather fans? Because the student section is where the debris was coming from.
In the end, my only concern is that the UGA players, coaches, and fans don't look at the UofA in a bad light because of this incident. 99.9% of the people in that stadium didn't throw anything.

No worries Rammer, Unfortunately throwing stuff is becoming more and more common from what Ive seen. Last Year I went to the dawgs game in athens and then went to the Notre Dame vs GA Tech later that evening. The stupid tech student section spent about 1/2 hour throwing garbage at the referees in the endzone after Notre Dame scored after a "questionable" call. As a UGA fan I wouldnt hold it against ya like I would the nerds from Atlanta. Lets remember it was the students and the dawg pile was right in front of them. Kinda self explanatory

Actually, when I saw that OT touchdown catch, it looked like it happened in the end zone closest to the student section. All the Georgia players ran down there and jumped into a big pile. I'm not saying that it was justifiable, but it might have been too big a temptation for a bunch of drunken, disappointed students to not have done something.
A few years ago, Auburn moved the visitor locked room to the other side from the student section. It used to be right there in the middle of it. It was probably a good idea.
