Looking ahead to the Saban Bowl
Although much of the focus on this weekend's LSU-Alabama game is media-driven, there's no question that there will be an awful lot of eyes on the game.
In the red corner, the Crimson Tide, Nick Saban's big sack of money and the collective fandom of Oregon, Oklahoma, and Arizona State.
And in the opposite corner, the Tigers, Les Miles's big sack and the entire Tiger nation, who seem to have a little something extra in mind for Nick Saban this weekend.
Heck, after watching this LSU hate video, via Deep South Sports, even I'm looking forward to the 2007 Saban Bowl.
Note to LSU fans - awesome, awesome vid... but next time, a little less on the Phil Collins cover song, OK?

LSU Fans have hated Saban since he left to go to the Dolphins. He lied and said he wasn't going anywhere and then suddenly he was the head coach to the Fins. Of course he did the Dolphins the same way, when he went to Bama.

Just in case anyone forgot, the biggest game of the year for Alabama is the Iron Bowl.
It isn't the annual LSU game.
Although the Bama/LSU game means alot right now.
It could decide who goes to Atlanta.
So could the Iron Bowl.
The video is cute and all...
No, no it's whack!!!
Coach Saban was born to Coach CFB.
Hate on.
This time next year Les Miles will be at Michigan in full force.
Hell, Dennis Franchione should be available for the Bayou Bengals!
We all know he is very LOYAL!!!
Or...
Pete Carroll the way USC is playing???The Crimson Tide season doesn't revolve around the LSU game.
It is all about the Iron Bowl.
LSU fans need to recognize this fact.
It is what it is.
In Alabama, beating Auburn means way more than LSU.
That's all.
Too much has been made of this game because the LSU fandom are still pissed about Saban leaving.
That is the bottom line...
Cause...

It'd be different if Saban had actually left LSU behind...
Instead, he contacted LSU BOS members after the Florida loss last year in Gainesville about a possible return...
Oh...wait...no, he didn't...Jimmy Sexton did...Of course he did it without Saban's permission, right? LOL!
Then, he made that cute little racial epithet and tossed it out to the Bama media at his hiring press conference, belittling South Louisiana natives...
Then, he talked smack about our players after the Sugar Bowl...
Then, he illegally recruited Luther Davis...
(In my best "Dude, Where's My Car" Drive through lady voice) AND THEN...
He went to SEC Media Days and lied about an incident where one of his Administrative Assistants got a flat tire while at a wedding (Where LSU fans actually changed her tire out for her) and blamed it on tire-slashing LSU fans (I wonder how many will bring fix-a-flat and a Tire Kingdom Gift Card to Tuscaloser this weekend?)...
Let's not even talk about the illegal contact with recruits in Florida, the disparaging comments he made about South Florida's recruiting, Books for Bucks, or anything else...
Oh, and T-Mac...You've obviously NOT bought into the Saban mantra...Forget the hype, one of his basic tenents of coaching is to produce a consistent high level of play.
In order to do this, he treats "The next game" as "The most important game on the schedule". You fans might feel the Iron Bowl is the most important one, but you can't get to Atlanta without getting by LSU on Saturday. If you would rather beat Auburn than beat LSU to go to Atlanta, then your priorities as a fanbase are on par with Nick Saban's conscience.
But, don't worry...your REM cycle of Atlanta will be rudely interrupted by the severity of the beatdown we're cooking up for you here in Baton Rouge...
Forget the Books for Bucks, forget the barroom brawls, forget Nick Saban, forget Les Miles...
You aren't there yet. You aren't close. LSU is here. LSU is where you want to be. LSU's going to show you that you can't get there.
We're going to demoralize you. At home. In front of your fans. In front of your coach. In front of the nation. You've played exactly what you are...No one...
LSU will remind you on Saturday...

TE, last year we had a team that only showed up to play for 3 quarters. THAT is the difference that Saban is making. The team now plays 4 quarters. With a Shula led team you didn't demoralize us last year in Tiger stadium so it won't happen in T-Town.
In case you're counting, Alabama has won 43 times to LSU's 22. I can understand why you feel so desperate about winning.
T-Mac made some excellent points. Alabama/Auburn is much bigger for us.
What coach hasn't said that they would stay and then moved on. Get over it. Life is too short.
Funny how the LSU family is building this up to be the grudge match of the century. Bama nation is just taking this as the next game . . . a game that we would like to win but NOT the end of the world for us.

Looking back on your predictions from LSU's past couple of games; I would say you are no Nostradamus. Meaning your predictions carry as much weight as a wet paper bag.
Your ego is overriding your brain, TE.
LSU is just not as good as you, and every other expert would have us believe.
After the game on Saturday, the LSU hyperbole will be deflated, along with your ego.
Despite being loaded with talent, Les Miles has yet to produce a MNC. This year will be no different. And, Les Miles will be exposed as the pretender we all know he is. IMO his gambling and acts of desperation will come back to bite him in the a*s this week.
BTW- It's going to be great to watch LSU get beat by a "NO One".

TE, big ego, little brain. Too bad that you didn't squeak by Kentucky.
You may call what I said "talking smack" but I was stating fact. Why is it that anytime a Bama fan mentions that we've beaten every SEC team more than they have beaten us people like you say that the past is irrelevant? Why keep records from year to year? Let's just forget ALL records after the season is over. That would include the Saban nc at LSU.
You make is sound as though you’re the only team in America who wants to win a national championship. Get in line. BTW, even a trip to Atlanta won’t get you an nc this year.
I think that I would rank wins over Arkansas and Houston, at the very least, up there with wins over Middle Tennessee and One Lane. A 21-14 loss to Florida State is no more of a beat down than a 43-37 loss to Kentucky. Stop huffing paint dude, you’ve lost enough brain cells! With your prediction record I think that I would be careful what I say. Shut up juice may not taste so good.

No problem GA Boy. You guys are playing some great football this year. LSU didn't fair so well in OT against Kentucky either.
Game should be interesting to say the least. Last year they beat us by 2 touchdowns. We are improved over our 6 and 7 team of a year ago. I think that's one of the reasons that LSU fans are trying to build this up as the all-time grudge match. I like to win but beating LSU is not that high on our list. We had 10 times rather beat Auburn.
To us this is just another game to strive to win. To the LSU people this seems to mean everything.

But see, this game is very dangerous for the tigers. Alabama really doesnt have a lot to lose here. LSU has EVERYTHING at stake. In all honesty, i dont even know what to predict in this game. if we win, ill be ecstatic. if we lose, well then we better beat auburn. i wont be too down. Here's what happens if LSU loses:
- no national championship
- fans will WANT les miles to go to michigan
- tiger nation will want to jump off of a bridge
- it will be proven that les miles - TE will have to change his nameHere's what happens if Alabama loses:
- oh well, it was a good effort
- we'll have to wait until saban's players get here
- an iron bowl win will still mean we had a good year
it looks as if yall have a LOT more at stake here. sure, id say you probably have a 60% chance of winning, but the consequenses are enough to have your tigers playing scared.
les miles knows that his career, season, and reputation are on the line here, so i don't think we'll see any gutsy play calling. i think he'll be coaching not to lose, instead of to win. this, combined with homefield advantage, may be just enough for us to win. who knows?all i know is that i CANT WAIT till saturday!!

All I gots to say about that is... this aint Big 12. Sorry, but defenses in the SEC are bigger, smarter, and faster, and thus more capable of handling Miles' gambles. Soon teams will truly just count on him gambling and when he tries it, he will find his team failing more often than not.
Look, Terry Grant is probably the #2 RB in the SEC (more YPC, TDs than Hester), DJ is the number one receiver in the SEC (most YDs overall), and when JPW is on, he's as good a passer as anyone in the West, he's shown that against Ole Miss and Tenn. So as far as Bama only putting up 10 pts... thats really laughable. LSU's super highly vaunted D has allowed 20 pts or more in 3 of 4 ogames against ranked SEC opponents, and SC only came up 4 pts shy of 20 after putting up 16 on LSU. Also, 3 of those four games were at home. LSU's record against ranked SEC teams on the road this year: 0-1.
If you want to look at the facts, LSU's defense isnt even close to what people think it is, and Bama's offense is much more capable than Les and the rest of the Tiger nation would like to beleive, especially when playing in T-town. Whats it all add up to? Upset alert, big time.

That LSU front 4 better not let him get that corner or he's gone.
Glen Coffee will be back as well along with Upchurch and the rest of the talented Bama backs like Johns.
T-Mac looks for some very solid tight end play this week as well.
T-Mac looks for a lot of slant passes to keep the LSU defense honest.

Just got back from "The Heart of Dixie" the great state of Alabama and I'm glad to be home. While up there I talked a ton of football (imagine that)and on my way home dropped by Dick's Sporting Goods and purchased a nice, new Alabama Crimson Tide golf shirt. I also picked up a LSU t-shirt and the minute I got home I promptly strapped it across my bow target and drilled it with a few high quality arrows. Yes, I'm the only guy in the neighborhood with a bow target but I keep it well hidden per my wife's instructions. Anyway, great to be home and great to read all the posts, especially from my fellow Bammers!! Roll Tide!! And by the way TE, I thought I was your favorite Bama poster???
Here's the deal. Can Nick Saban, the most hated man in Louisiann, lead a rag tag bunch of losers, with a fan base that is stuck in a glory funk about yesteryear (don't take my word for it, just ask TE) up against this Giant Powerhouse LSU and come away victorious? The mighty LSU that was a media darling in all the preseason polls and had the talent, experience and the schedule to GO ALL THE WAY. I mean look at the schedule. All the tough games (Florida, Auburn) were at home and for a quality road win, which every championship team needs - let's be honest - the football gods had built Kentucky up as the answer. All Miles and his Bengals had to do was cruise up to the bluegrass state and take care of business. LSU had already steam rolled over Miss. State 45-0 in the opening game and every good LSU fan had already chalked Bama up as a Beat Down, so Kentucky was IT!! Only Kentucky didn't get the memo and came out on top.
Now LSU fans are talking about the fact that they've played all these ranked teams, but besides Kentucky they've played them all in Louisianna. So yeah, Les Miles has a lot to prove. This is now THE GAME for LSU as Bleed Crimson pointed out. The pollsters have given LSU a pass because this season is so screwed up and Ohio State and Boston College have yet to play a defining game. So now in the ultimate twist of fate, any trip to Atlanta for the Bengal Tigers has to go through Tuscaloosa. Through Nick Saban, the coach who picked LSU up off the mat in the first place. What an irony? Will we win? Does Nick Saban jump to the front of the "Coach of the Year" ballot with a victory? Does Les Miles have a method to his madness? We get to find out Saturday. I can't wait! And with the Tide getting 7 points at home, let's just say I'm FULLY invested.
If Saban wins either the LSU or Auburn games the season will be considered better than what most fans expected, but if he beats LSU this Saturday he sends a message to the college football world that not only is Bama back, but he's worth all the money we've paid him. For a process oriented, results freak like Saban, that might be the only motivation that matters!!
Roll Tide!!!!!

GA Boy, I want to beat LSU in the worst way. I'm just saying that between LSU and Auburn, every good BAMA fan gets more excited at the prospects of beating Auburn.
I do think that BAMA will surprise LSU in a lot of ways. John Parker has broken a number of records and is on the way to owning every quarterback record at Alabama and he's only a sophomore. That speaks volumes for a school that has turned out the likes of Sloan, Stabler and Namath.
#64, Alabama's offense is MORE than 3 points better than last year's Shula team. We now play 4 quarters. Something that we haven't done in a long time. Only a Saban hater wouldn't admit that he has already turned around a rag tag bunch and instilled that Crimson Tide pride again.
Having nothing to lose, (meaning that we are exceeding our expectations for this year), means that we can take chances and play like riverboat gamblers.

# 65, it sounds as though you are chastising us for saying that a win over our hated in state rival is not as heated as a win over LSU. Sorry pal but the game with your boys is not as big as an Alabama/Auburn game. My only wish is that we could come to BR and pimp slap LSU on their home field.

#66 - I know that Saban is a very good coach, no argument there. I have nothing against Saban, but he isn't anyone I would trust if he was recruiting me. He is a very good coach though and I am not surprised that he has Bama playing well
That being said, I just think that now that LSU had a week off that they will be back to playing their top game.
Rather than say that Bama will do better than their point total last year give us a prediction and go out on a limb, you may end up being a correct.

LSU 24College football is hard to predict. Georgia beat us by 3 points in overtime. We beat Tennessee by 24 and Tennessee beat Georgia by 21. Should we have been 45 points better than Georgia?

I know that Bama had a week off as well, I was only referring to LSU. Personally I don't think that we beat them by X and they beat another team by Y means anything. Each game is totally different, there was another thread about that silliness last week.
Should be a good game to watch, like most SEC games this season. I hope that the winner of the game finishes running the table in the SEC.

I'm glad that you said each game is totally different. How LSU has played against other opponents this season has no bearing on this game. I will say this, as a Bama fan for 46 years, I have noticed that almost everybody plays inspired ball against us.

TE, post 68.
T-Mac didn't realize LSU had 3 seniors in the secondary.
Given what T-Mac has seen of the LSU secondary play this season, it is hard to imagine they are seniors!
With protection from the Bama O-Line, John Parker Wilson will CARVE up that LSU secondary like a PUMPKIN/THANKSGIVING TURKEY!!!!!!!!Make No Mistake TE...
John Parker Wilson is a good QB.
You know that!
All this name-calling against him will not change the outcome of the game bro!!!
Also, Props to all the other LSU fans who choose to be respectful and not make-up stupid names to describe very good players!!!
TE, Flynn better play lights out or it will be a long day in Tuscaloosa dogg!!!
Alabama has a very good stable of tailbacks.
LSU will see a steady dose of that.
Then John Parker Wilson goes deep.
As far as Doucet goes TE...
Alabama has a guy by the name of Simeon Castille who can keep him in check all game long.
No worries there bro!!!
T-Mac told you at the start of the season TE, if LSU faced a legit air-it-out team that they would have problems!
With time to throw, JPW will CARVE that LSU secondary up dogg!
No doubt.
Quit with the name-calling dogg.
No Bama fan is on here calling any LSU player a stupid name.
TE, Make no mistake...
John Parker Wilson will play on Sunday...
If he chooses FB over baseball.
His stats don't lie.
TE, earlier in the season you predicted that the South Carolina Gamecocks wouldn't even make it inside the redzone in the entire second half and also that LSU would keep them at 7 points only.
T-Mac didn't wanna call you out on that TE.
T-Mac never did call you out on that TE.
T-Mac saw that game different than you TE and it turned out different than you thought.
LSU won that game against South Carolina...
but TE you predicted 38-7 if T-Mac is correct.
That is not what was on the scoreboard in the end.
T-Mac is saying to keep up with the bravado/name-calling on here and we shall see how things pan out TE.
Nobody is impressed with that anymore dogg.

I can't believe my fellow Bammers are writing this game off as "Not that big of a deal". Say what?????
Year in and year out it is every team’s goal to win a championship. Whether it is an MNC, SEC, or even a divisional. With that being said, an SEC Championship can not happen with out beating them Bengaled Tigers this Saturday.
Do the rest of my Bama brethren realize that if we win out in the SEC; we are going to ATL?
Well, I don't know about you guys, but this game means a lot to me, and I'm sure it means a lot to the players and the coaching staff too.
I mean, how sweet would it be to ruin LSU's chances at an MNC?
BTW- Do all of the Bammers know that we (Bama) haven't beat LSU in our own house this millennium?

T-Mac,
The truth is, you have faced NO ONE with even COMPARABLE talent as the talent you will see on LSU's sideline and on the field.
We have gone up against Top 25 opponents-with the exception of two games-since the 2nd game of this season.
Week in, and week out...
What have you gone up against? Houston? Arkansas? Ole Miss? Your creampuff OOC schedule? Your two big "games" were against...Tennessee & Florida State? You lost one of those!
What's the status of those two offensive lineman involved in the textbook for cash scandal? Or Glenn Coffee? Better yet...You've seen how our defensive line goes up against spread offenses, and absolutely loathsome and trashy cut blocking...and we still rattle quarterbacks...What makes you think that with ONE back (and remind me again how many people have run against us this year? Don't worry...I'll wait, T-Mac...I know we'll be here for awhile before you admit what everyone already knows...The answer is NO ONE!) and a patchwork offensive line that you're going to either:
A.) Protect your quarterback
B.) Run against our front 7
C.) Establish the pass with no balance and the run stuffed? All the coaching in the world can't solve your problems. Be they off the field cheating, on the field talent deficiencies, or your own misguided and woebegone delusions of grandeur regarding just what you are, and what you're not.
You've seen LSU go up against a Murderer's Row of opponents, while you've feasted on a bunch of fairies...On a level playing field, or hell...even in Tuscaloser, the bottom line is that you will get the Truth on Saturday.
The Truth is that you are not a good football team. The nosedive starts at 4pm, Central Standard, T-Mac...
Buckle up...

# 84, Thanks that's very decent of you considering that we're on opposite sides. :-)
One thing that has changed for us is that we are now in the game for 4 quarters. When Shula coached us, he stood on the sidelines with that "deer in the headlights look" during the 4th quarter and the team played in like manner.
This year we hung in with Arkansas, Old Miss and Georgia. Something that we haven't done in a long time.

# 15 Tennessee
# 19 Florida State
# 21 ArkansasHow can anyone say we haven't played some talented teams so far this year. We are 2-2 against this group with one loss in OT. Mind you that this is a first year coach with a brand new staff. Nothing LSU is going to bring to Bryant Denny on Saturday is going to be earth shattering to those kids wearing Crimson!!!

Big Tide all that TE has is smack talk. Deep down he knows that LSU can't live up to his hype. LSU plays better at home than on the road, (unless of course, they are playing Bama in BR).
Personally, I would love to go down there and butt whup them in their own stadium. One thing that the Tide does not fear is that so called "death valley". Unfortunately for them, playing us in THEIR stadium has usually been THEIR death.

Big Tide, post 95 is good.
Arkansas was actually ranked 16th when the Tide beat them.
So, Alabama has beaten 2 top-20 teams and lost to 2 top-20 teams. Not bad at all.
TE, T-Mac has gotta tell ya dogg, Flynn hasn't been impressive at all in what T-Mac has seen.
T-Mac is not hatin on Flynn, but more being honest in an evaluation.
Now TE, you always wanna hate on JP Wilson...
Well, here are the stats among the Alabama starting QB and the LSU starting QB.
They are as follows,
John Parker WilsonTotal yds passing-1876yds
Passing avg/game -234.5yds
Total yds on season-1944yds
Total yds/game -243yds
Matt FlynnTotal yds passing-1266yds
Passing avg/game -180.9yds
Total yds on season-1404yds
Total yds/game -200.6yds
Now, TE the stats don't lie brother!
So, T-Mac says to keep calling JP Wilson names.
T-Mac thinks when he is lighting up that LSU secondary that you will be calling him plenty of names!
Now, all that being said, T-Mac gives the offensive edge to Alabama!
T-Mac gives the defensive edge to LSU!
T-Mac says special teams are 100% equal!
TE, just tell Les Miles not to kick to Xavier Arenas!Be smart like Tenn and kick it outta bounds brother!
T-Mac says it is simply too close to call.It really could go either way.
If, and this is a BIG IF, the Bama O-Line can protect Wilson and open up a lane or 2, the Tide wins.
If this doesn't happen, LSU wins.
That LSU defense is very stout and they will blitz like crazy, but many times blitz-happy defenses seem to get burned!
T-Mac says it can go either way.T-Mac is getting hungry.

T-Mac...For starters, we play(ed, since he won't travel to 'Bama this Saturday) Perrilloux an awful lot this year situationally to throw defenses off.
Judging from our record, we've done just that.
Also, Matt Flynn had a high ankle sprain against Virginia Tech, and was deemed around "90%" by Miles going into last week's game where he absolutely took over in the 4th quarter, and set career highs in yardage, and tied career highs in touchdowns, etc.
Obviously, you aren't keeping up with the Tigers, since you want to throw stats out. It's hard to match up statistically when you sat the Middle Tennessee State game out, completely. Flynn rested his bum ankle (which is now completely healthy, thanks to the off-week) that game and gave the keys to the car to Ryan for that game.
So, we've got a ridiculously effective ground game, a change of pace quarterback who plays situationally, wide receivers who have been so inconsistent it's not even funny, our top wide receiver-Early Doucet-whose been out since before the Florida game, and a quarterback with a high ankle sprain...
No wonder he hasn't impressed you.
Having said that, our team has still mauled competition...
You bring up the teams on your wampum belt that you beat who "were ranked at the time" that are now cellar dwellers in the SEC West...
We have beaten teams that are IN the Top 25 right now...
Tad bit of a difference, mind you...LOL!
I get a big kick out of the "offensive edge" to Alabama...You haven't played a defense on our level all year...and you talk about how it's "suspect", but yet, you ignore the talented teams we've faced...Sort've hard to throw up shutouts against ranked opponents, week in and week out, but it's pretty easy-for a Bama fan-to get a bunch of PR mileage out of wins against teams that were ranked "at the time" that have since folded like cheap tents...
You guys are like the Emperor and his new wardrobe...Strutting around all bragadocious about wins over Houston, and sorry teams that were ranked once, but were obviously exposed as pretenders to the throne...
Don't talk to me about rankings from the past, T-Mac (and Bama)...If that's the case, then we'll talk about Michigan, USC, & South Florida...What does their ranking "at the time" mean now?
Exactly what those rankings of the Top 20 teams you played "at the time" mean now...NOTHING.
You beat sorry teams. That's all. You sweated out a nailbiter against Ole Miss like a smack addict going cold turkey the first 72 hours...
LSU is COMPLETELY HEALTHY...For the first time since Virginia Tech...
Matt's ankle is 100%...Early's back in the lineup at 100% (He had 7 grabs for 93 yards at "80%" against Auburn!)...Our offensive line's healed up from its bangs and bruises...
Your field of Dreams will be turned into a River of Tears Saturday...The carnage starts at 4pm...
Buckle up...

TE wants to talk about how teams that Bama beat, as he puts it, "sorry teams that were ranked once, but were obviously exposed as pretenders to the throne...". He forgets that LSU beat Auburn with one second left on that stupid go for a touchdown instead of a field goal that crazy Les Miles called. Auburn is barely hanging in the top 20. LSU beat South Carolina and they have almost dropped out of the top 25.
Of course it's different if it's LSU, (the team that Nick Saban put back on the map). Had Saban not put together the great teams that Crazy Miles is now reaping the benefits of, LSU would still just be the ugly stepchild in the SEC West.

So, T-Mac, guess you're upset that I pointed out that Flynn hasn't impressed because he was injured significantly, and also had his top wideout significantly injured...
I wonder how Sarah Jessica John Paker Wilson would look had DJ Hall been injured during the meat of their schedule?
But, every team has injuries...That shouldn't interfere with Matt's abilities at quarterback...The fact that beyond Doucet, we have no one with more experience at wideout than a Redshirt Sophomore who did not start last year...
A bunch of first time fulltime starters, with JUCO's, true frosh, and others to catch passes, and still Flynn carved up Auburn for 498 yards last week...
Oh, and Sweet Home...what's stupid is your blind surface read of that Auburn game...The clock would've been reset to 4 seconds had Byrd not caught the ball. Unless either Byrd or the defender kicks the ball akin to a punt, the hangtime included would've still left time on the clock. The timekeeper let the clock run down because of the excitement in the stadium, but I assure you, time would've been put back on the clock.
But, don't let facts get in the way of your opinion about Miles being stupid...
