Arkansas debuts pink jerseys for slackers
There's a new look to Arkansas Razorback football: the pink jersey. Six players sported pink tops in this week's practice for having too many "loafs".
The Pink Panthers among the Razorbacks were six defensive players who had more than six loafs in Monday’s and Tuesday’s practices — linemen Jamaal Anderson, Keith Jackson Jr. and Michael Tate and linebackers Sam Olajubutu, Michael Robinson and Weston Dacus.
Defensive Coordinator Reggie Herring came up with the idea this week after breaking down practice tapes.
"This game’s not very complicated. It’s very simple. It’s about effort and commitment and accountability," Herring said. "[Wearing pink jerseys] was just another way of identifying guys that we don’t think are playing hard enough and fast enough in practice.
Players who show improvement in subsequent practices can trade in their pink jersey for the standard practice jersey.
"We did the up-downs, now we’re going to phase two," Herring said of the pink jerseys. "I don’t know what to throw out next except maybe making them wear a bonnet out here with flowers. I don’t know. In all seriousness, we’re hoping to come out here for practice with no pink jerseys. That’s our goal."
