Tuberville agrees to contract extension
Via Track Em Tigers, Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville has agreed in principle to a contract extension, although the Birmingham News reports both sides are still working on the details.
One source said that the two sides have agreed in principle to add three years to the current contract, which would extend it to the original seven years, another source said the two sides have not agreed on the length of the new deal.
Auburn President Jay Gogue is charged with giving the final approval for any decisions from the university's side. Tuberville is also expected to discuss other issues, such as contracts for his assistant coaches.
A contract extension would reset the seven-year deal Tuberville signed before the 2005 season. If formally agreed on, the new contract would likely run through the 2014 season.
The contract extension appears to be in response to attempts to woo Tuberville away from AU, including new reports that Arkansas is preparing an offer for the Auburn coach.
Tuberville, an Arkansas native from Camden, Ark,, received $2.6 million this season. Under his current agreement, Auburn will pay him $2.8 million next season with additional raises each of the remaining years.

Raises and extensions for a coach who averages under 9 wins/ per year, has only (2) 10 win seasons, and 1 SECC...if Im going to rip him I also have to give him credit for the MNC in 04 b/c AU was the best team in the nation that year...THEY GOT SHAFTED. Still, it doesnt change the fact that his #'s still aren't great.

Dawgfan, in this state the key to longevity is to beat your biggest rival. For the past 6 years BAMA has not had a coach who could do that. Thus Tubberville with his 6-0 record gets the extension.
Back in the 70's Bill Battle had a 73% winning records at Tennessee. The last 3 years there he was 10-2, 10-2 and 11-1. He won 2 SEC championships and went to 9 bowl games, but could not beat his biggest rival, Alabama so he was forced to resign.

Dawg fan
He has the best numbers in the toughest most diverse conference in the country over the last 4 seasons. Third best record in the country and an undefeated season in that time span. Sounds pretty good to me.
And we are only losing 2 starters on offense and 2 on defence sounds like he can write his own ticket.

Careful, Autigerman. You'll have Army95 on you claiming that his conference is the toughest and that A&M is a team destined for an NC.
He will also thank the good Lord that his team didn't get Tubby as a coach.
Although I'm glad he’s staying put, he would have raised A&M to a level of respectability that they haven't known in years.
No doubt, Tubs is a good coach. Good luck in your bowl game.

Autigerman - I assume you're talking about (2003-2006) as the last 4 years. I hate to tell you this, but LSU has the most wins in the conference over that time span. LSU 44, AU 41. Then if you include this year AU drops behind UGA also. You can look at this info for yourself if you would like.

And this stuff about the 3rd best record in the country is so ridiculous I am not even going to go there. Once again, go look at the stats for yourself.

Dawg
coming into this season Auburn was 33-5 since 2004 that happens to rank #3.
Third in the nation behind Texas and SO cal, slipped a little this year but with 17 starters returning i think we are in pretty good shape. If we dont make the same mistake of waiting till week 12 to get a bye we will stop you next year.
This year you were the better team.
