Auburn, Tuberville finalize contract

The USA Today and ESPN have confirmed that Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville has finalized a contract extension that will keep him with the Tigers through the 2013 season.

Tuberville, who was in New York for National Football Hall of Fame functions, told The Birmingham News and The Huntsville Times that he and athletic director Jay Jacobs reached an agreement that will run through the 2013 season. They completed the deal Tuesday afternoon in a meeting at his hotel.

Tuberville's new deal includes a $200,000/year raise, putting his salary at $2.8 million next year, escalating to $3.8 million in the final year. The extension also includes raises for his assistant coaches and a buyout clause.

Under the terms of the new contract, Tuberville's buyout will be at $6 million in 2008, $5 million in 2009 and $4 million for the remaining years.

"We're excited about it," Tuberville said. "It's one of those things that we worked it slow. I know people have been anxious. I haven't been looking at any other job. I don't want any other job. I love Auburn. We want to be at Auburn a long time, as long as we can be there. Good things happen slow. We're excited about it."

No word yet as to what understanding Tuberville and Auburn reached on facility upgrades. The Tigers coach has publicly lobbied for facility improvements to bring AU on par with other SEC schools.

im glad those idiots at Arkansas realize now how little draw they are. NOBODY WANTS TO COME TO ARKANSAS....ESPECIALLY NOT TUBERVILLE! But living in Arkansas it was kinda funny to watch them wait in anticipation only to be let down again. Maybe Arkansas can get ...hmmmm....Francioni or Mike Shula....they are both used to running a horribly sub par program.

I'm sure Mike Dubose is available, as well. There's no doubt in my mind, that he would be chomping at the bits for a chance to run Arkanas' program in the ground.

Personally, I would like to see Arkansas hire Terry Bowden. Just think of all the fun we could have with that.

Herring wants to come to Arkansas. In fact, he is the only one to say he wants it. Apparantly no one learned anything after the basketball search.

Zac, this is soooo old news to me. I made a TE-esque prediction on this soooo long ago... :-)

I've been so busy on Auburn homer sites trying to keep the younger fans from wetting their pants that I just haven't wanted to talk about it much on here. It's hard being a defender of the faith!

WEA, I'm just glad I'm finally not getting any more emails concerning the Iron Bowl. I've got more You-Tube links than my computer can handle.

Big Tide: Hey, you haven't seen the one where Quentin Groves is directing the band in a stirring rendition of Hey, Alabama,/i>, have you? haha!

The best video of this season happens to be one made by fanblogs co-founder and chief editor of the Auburn fanhouse on AOL, Big Bama Homer Pete Holiday, (clap, clap, clap)

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=s0tpxlaok2c

Pete was so proud of his work, he posted it on the Auburn site. Good thing he got it in early, though. Might have looked a little foolish down the road, considering Saban got Croomed, and had Auburn call scoreboard on him, too.

    Where's that new video, Pete?

Coondog Whatever; my grandfather had a coondog when I was a kid. He was a bird dog man but somehow ended up with this blue tick coondog. That dog was stupid, sorry, didn't know how to tree but he had one hell of a mouth on him. Finally had to shoot that dog......

I don't understand the problem with my fellow Auburn faithful. I am the most successful coach in your history. I have beaten Alabama six in a row. I have turned Alabama in to the NCAA. I have run a clean program in Auburn. I have done all these things and still you talk about Coach Petrino. He's turned you down once and you still want him. I though Auburn was about loyalty.
