Muschamp to Auburn rumors persist

As of last night, the Mobile, Alabama Fox station was reporting that Muschamp would be introduced as soon as today (Friday) as the new head coach of the Auburn Tigers.

FOX10 News sources have told us Auburn will likely name Will Muschamp its new head coach sometime Friday. Muschamp was Auburn's defensive coordinator two years ago. WVUE in New Orleans first reported Muschamp would likely be the Tigers new coach.

Of course, that flies in the face of everything we've heard up until now, especially with Muschamp being the coach-in-waiting at Texas.

The Auburn followers have been working all night trying to find legs to the Muschamp story, but former Auburn beat reporter Phillip Marshall says that the Muschamp to Auburn rumors are false.

Of course, there are also rumors that Buffalo's Turner Gill is about to be introduced, as well as reports that South Carolina's Steve Spurrier will be announced as the head coach.

The only thing that's clear right now is that the best head coaching choice for Auburn remains the guy they already canned... Tommy Tuberville.

UPDATE

Muschamp is out to set the record straight - he will not be the Auburn coach.

"I have not talked to Auburn about this job and I have no interest in the job," said Muschamp. "I really don't know what else to say. I'm going to stay at Texas until they fire me."
