Baylor fires Guy Morriss

As expected, Baylor has fired football coach Guy Morriss following the team's 12th consecutive Big XII conference loss ended the 2007 season.

The Bears were not able to right the ship under Morriss. This season represents the team's 12th consecutive losing season.

"I want to publicly express my appreciation to coach Morriss for his contributions to the Baylor football program," McCaw said in a statement from the Waco campus. "The football program is on a more solid foundation than it was when he arrived at Baylor."

The Bears (3-9, 0-8 Big 12) ended their season with a 45-14 home loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday night. Morriss met with the players Sunday afternoon after he was fired.

"I would like to thank them publicly for their hard work and efforts on the field as well as in the classroom," Morriss said in a statement. "I believe the football program is in better condition now than when I inherited it. I wish Baylor well in all future endeavors."

The leading candidate to replace Morriss is NFL Hall of Famer Mike Singletary. Several other names being floated are Arkansas coach Houston Nutt, Houston coach Art Briles and Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Larry Fedora.

What is baylor expecting? I realize they should be able to upset a couple teams in the Big 12 this year (Seeing as kansas is so successful and traditional powerhouses Texas and Oklahoma look quite pedestrian while Nebraska is in a truely sorry state) but competeing in the Big 12 in the long run as a small private school is probably too much to hope for. I can't see houston coach leaving houston as he can accomplish much more there (actual conference titles etc.)

I am not seeing a modereately successful baylor in the future, not in that conference. Just be a punching bag and collect your check like Duke and Vanderbilt. Know your place, if you want success move to the C-USA, if you want money, stay put, I just don't think you can have both Baylor.

    Too bad, so sad.

He talked more trash than his players did.
