New BCS poll will open final ballots
The BCS is putting the final touches on a new poll to be administered by Harris Interactive. The new poll will consist of approximately 75 former administrators, coaches and players and 25 current sports writers and broadcasters.
The new poll will replace the AP poll as one component of the BCS selection process. Under the current plan, the new poll will not begin until several weeks into the season, a move intended to address poll criticism that some teams do not get an equal shot to move up in the polls.
While the votes will not published on a weekly basis, the poll will release the final ballot of the year, which will be the tally used by the BCS.
The BCS said that they will also consider conducting a post-bowl poll to crown a champion, just as the AP poll has done.
The BCS is expected to make an official announcement regarding the new poll in mid-July.
