Fresno State is the Rodney Dangerfield of college football. They have 2 losses to teams with a combined loss total of 1. A #19 ranking is ridiculous. There aren't 6 teams in the country that can beat the Bulldogs this year. It's a shame that these pathetic writers are so wrapped up in the BS that they cant recognize one of the best teams in the country, because they play in a weak conference. Well, their conference may be weak, but there schedule wasn't and they held their own against the nation's #1 team. As screwed up as the BCS is, we have to remember that the human vote by biased writers is just as flawed.

Fan of the game you are right. Fresno State is no joke they are the real deal & should prob be in the Pac 10. I go thru this with my WV Mounties every yr lack of respect. It won't get fixed until there is a playoff. Every yr there are good teams that get left out. Utah last yr could have played if not won against any team in America. We need a playoff! Good luck Fresno State!

Leave it like it is. The computer isnt bias. If we have a playoff then it would be a controversy for the "eighth" spot. My team is better then whoever, why we dont get the eighth spot in the playoffs. Besides what would we have to bitch about then.

Does anyone know why WVU would have little chance of getting in the Fiesta Bowl? If we assume Notre Dame were taken by the Fiesta it appear that the BCS rules state that the Orange and Fiesta must list automatic qualifiers in their first two selection of teams. This would appear to require Penn State 1 and WVU 2 by the two bowls.
What am I missing?

Is anyone else sick of USC? Yeah, they're a great team, but man I've never seen such a media love fest. I'm partial to Texas, but with the exception of a great Ohio State team and the their bitter rivals A&M, they've destroyed everyone they've played. USC, on the other hand is less than a yard away from having 2 losses and less than 20 away from a 3rd.(Fresno St.)The media has done everything they can to pull Texas out of the BCS Championship by pretending that Virginia Tech, Miami, and LSU are all better teams. They've all lost and Texas keeps winning. We've all got our favorites, but Texas outranks USC in offense, defense, scoring, and Vince Young has more TD's than any player on the Trojans team. So I say this, good luck Texas, UCLA, LSU, or any other team that beats these media darlings. I will become an instant fan!!

The way they do factor in the computer rankings is inconsistent with the way they factor in the polls.
Each computer ranking should be normalized so the best rating equates to 100% and the worst equates to 0% -- just as they do with the number of points for the polls -- and then take the average with the best and worst for each team excluded.
The results wouldn't change much, but it would at least be consistent, and teams whose rankings are almost exactly the same don't get a full .01 difference in the final BCS rating, and teams whose rankings are drastically better than the next team get more than just the .01 difference.
(If you're familiar with the math, you know what I mean. Otherwise, all I'm saying is ... the math needs to reflect the variations in the ratings, or else the "computer rankings" are losing much of their significance.)

College Football needs a playoff system!!!
The Fiesta Bowl should be Oregon v. Penn State. But we know the TV influence will sell out to Notre Dame and Ohio State Both 2 loss teams.
USC will crush Texas just like they did to OU.
Fresno State is a Dangerous Team that no big name college will want to face in a bowl game.

USC would love to play a doubleheader on January 4, 2006. That way the first team offense could play a whole game. Every team that has lined up against USC over the past four years has brought their "A" game. USC has reponded.
The best college offense in the country. Don't worry about USC's defense, they are fast and can hit. You all need to worry about your own teams defense. USC can score a point per play.
Vince Young may have more TD's than any USC player. But USC is a team. Shut down Vince, and Texas is in big trouble.
Slip Fresno State into the Big-12 championship game instead of a horrible Colorado team and maybe USC is playing Penn State in the Rose Bowl.
If you triple team Reggie and try and shut him down, Lindale will kick it into high gear. Having a 3-year starter/Heisman trophy winner at QB is a huge advantage. USC has seen it all. They respond to the crowds.
They play better football in the PAC-10 than any other conference. USC has played Auburn, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Oregon, Michigan, Iowa State, Virginia Tech, UCLA, Fresno State, and California over the past three years. You need to play those tough teams to be a good team. If your conference is not tough, play tougher teams outside of your conference.
USC would love to play Texas. I have heard everyone state they would like to see USC get drilled. Why? If you want to be the best you need to play the best.
The Sister's of Mercy are not in the BCS. The Trojans need to finish their business. UCLA did not step up and play all ten games tough. Mistake.
USC will welcome anybody willing to flip a coin at the fifty-yard line on January 4, 2006.
Just shut-up and strap it on. Remember, this is the Rose Bowl. The granddaddy of them all. and it is located in Southern California. I think that would be almost a home game for USC.
3-Pete.

I keep hearing that the teams that deserve to be in the BSC bowls aren't necessarily the teams that get selected. Everyone says it's all about TV ratings and who'll sell the most tickets. If this is indeed the case then why wouldn't the fiesta bowl choose Penn State vs. Notre Dame. It seems to me that those two teams could draw just as big a crowd as the rose bowl. Am I missing something?

What you're missing is that the Fiesta choses first & third. Everyone is placing PSU as the second "pick" - headed to the Orange.

USC 3 Pete, that's cute how you throw a little reference in about Fresno State. I'd bet if Kent State took USC to the limit, you'd be mouthing about how great they were too. I want USC. make no mistake about it. If they kick Texas' butt, so be it, they'd be champs again, but as I said: THAT HASN'T HAPPENED YET! Is Notre Dame great too? How about Arizona State? I didn't see Mr. Heisman or King Reggie "resting" in those games. Does ASU even have an A game? Texas A&M did shut down Young, but Texas still put up 40. But wait, they weren't playing USC, so we can't make excuses can we? Penn State? Yeah, you'd love to play them wouldn't you? PAC 10, the best, Good God man try watching a little football every now and then. It's kind of like Califonia crying about their BCS bid going to Texas last year. How'd their bowl game turn out by the way. I'm not saying the Big 12 is the best by no means, but I'll bet the SEC might have something to say about that. Did USC really play Iowa State, Oregon, and Michigan in the past 3 years. That's freaking incredible they're still walking! We all know how mean and nasty a duck can be. And those mighty Cyclones, WOW! Oh yeah, I can't forget Fresno State, the greatest team in the world. They lost 3 games this year. THEY ARE NOT IN THE SAME LEAGUE! USC does deserve to be where they're at. I could set here and call it luck, but point taken, they won. I just think it's funny how people build them up to be a machine. When they screw up and almost lose, people talk about how good the other team was or when someone puts 30 or 40 on them, all people can say is look at Reggie run. I have it strapped on and do I want USC? Oh yeah!!

Kevin, I thought BCS bowls were supposed to put auto qualifiers 1,2 in their picks? Why not PSU #1 (Orange) and WVU #2 (Fiesta) after Fiesta fills slot with Notre Dame? Without upsets it looks like everyone has WVU pegged for Sugar Bowl.

3 pete you might want to win one nc before you try to for three. And now you want to talk about defense the same defense that gave up 42 to fresno st really.Well we will see how good you are this may be the only true test you have faced in three years personaly i dont care who wins i think both conf are very weak anyway.I dont think your second string got to play against frenso or notre dame or asu or arizona or stanford, ucla ,va tech, cal, ariz st last year.Yall are very lucky to have any claim to a nc either year the pac 10 is horrible.

WV, I'm talking about filling the remaining bowl positions after the national championship game has been set and other conferences have been placed in their host games. Sorry I didn't make myself clear. The BCS rules appears to state that auto qualifiers have to be in the first two picks when they are assigned to fill the remaining three bowl slots. With those three slots I wonder why the picking order wouldn't be PSU #1, WVU #2 and say OSU #3. I'm assuming Notre Dame will go to the Fiesta to fill in for Texas.
From the BCSfootball.org website:
"Any BCS bowl game(s) still remaining unfilled will submit a listing of its top three team selections to fill its at-large slot. Any team that is guaranteed a berth in a BCS bowl game and that has not already placed in such a game must be listed among such bowl game's first two selections. Each BCS bowl will then be given its highest preference of teams.
In a situation where two or more bowls select the same team(s) with their choices, the priority of selection goes initially to the bowl making the larger per team payment and then rotates to the other bowls not given first priority in a previous year. For the bowls not hosting the national championship game this season, the following selection priority will apply if necessary:
FedEx Orange Bowl
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
Nokia Sugar Bowl"

What a load of crap! It is still apparent that incest is thriving in some areas of the US. Thank God, that sleeping with your sisters, is still against the law out here in liberal California. Most of these goof balls just do not understand football. You can't blame in on them too much. Heck, with all the meth and moonshine that these rednecks are forced to ingest every day - how could they ever get a clear picture?
Although, I would agree that Texas stands up to USC statistically, there are way too many intangibles involved with any game. I can understand why a computer might rank Texas higher. But, in twenty-two years of coaching, Mack Brown has never won a conference championship. Has he not had good players? Has he not had good teams? What is the problem here? And, why would he just mysteriously win one this year? Could it be that this just happens to be the weakest year for the Big-12 ever? You know, he just might not be a very good technician of the game. He better be when he has to play USC. This is just one intangible.
Texas did have the #1 recriuting class in the country four years ago. That might explain why that team is so good. USC has led the country in recruiting (overall) over the last three years. A slight edge goes to USC in overall player skill levels (predicted only) coming out of high school. Both teams have great players - no doubt! Young is a junior and not very good last year. He's had about one year of top flight play and seems to have the knack for battlin' back. Leinart is about 36-1 as a starting QB, with the only loss coming to Cal in triple OT, in a game in which Rodgers completed about twenty-one passes in a row. USC has won about 45 of the last 46 games. Unless, Young can complete about twenty in a row - I seriously doubt if Texas will have much chance. Leinart is a senior and refuses to ever lose again. Young a junior.
Charles is a decent back and will be great. He is much like Bush was when Bush was a freshman. Problem is: Bush and LenDale White are both juniors now and both are ready for the pros. There is no comparison here: USC's backs are far superior to Texas'. USC's WR's Jarret, Smith and Turner are as good as any in the country. Whitney Lewis the nations #2 rated high school recruit three years ago - can't get on the field. Does Texas have any people like this? I think not. I've never seen Pittman or any of these guys grab more than five balls in a game. They are never going to go off for 200 yards and three scores like Jarrett might frequently do.
Offensive lines are about the same: very best in the country (both teams). On defense Texas seems stout enough. They just are not really playing against real good offenses. So, we can't know if they are good or not. One dimensional Texas Tech cannot be the gauge either. Big question mark here and this is what USC will expose. Now, the USC defense has lost eight starters from last year - and not played up to the standards of the last few years. We lost coach Orgeron and several freshman are on the field. The talent level, beleive it or not, is much higher than it was then. There is talent all over the place - just not a lot of experience. The offenses that Troy has had to play are some of the very best in the country (Notre Dame,Oregon,Hawaii,Fresno State,Arizona State,Washington State) with UCLA and Texas still on tap. All of these teams can really move the chains. Even Arkansas was a top rushing team along with California. The only team that the Trojans faced that were not terribly strong on offense was Stanford - and they are not that bad. The young defense has had as severe a workout as any unit could possibly have. They have just gotten a two week rest - which should help. Of course, Texas will be the top offense that this unit will face. Fresno was the only team that ever made their averages against the USC defense. I think that if we can hold Texas to forty - then USC will win by ten. I know that Texas will not be able to even understand what is happening on defense on that day.
So, all you hillbillies can talk trash all day and all night (while your gettin' high with your sisters) - it isn't gonna make any difference on game day. Your team is going to flat out get out-coached, period. Your team will not be able to stop Bush, White, Leinart, Smith and Jarrett. If any of these people goes off: you will lose. I'm takin' any redneck money that thinks that these city slickers can't handle Texas. Nah, I think it'll be the other way around. I think Texas is gonna wee-wee themselves all the way back home to Austin. They'll slide off into some southern dive, put some Hank on the juke, order up some beers and cry about what it should have been like. Oh well, maybe some of them Horns will take up country music and make a whole slew of real sad songs. I like country - but, I'd never root for a for sure loser.Tommie Trojan

Man, oh man. Can't we all just get along? NO! Or should I say, "HELL NO!". It's just wasy too much fun arguing over which team deserves to be where and what not. Most of this arguing, allthough entertaining, is so emotionally biased towards your favorite teams that no one cares about facts or even probabilities, for that matter. So for your entertainment, here are a few facts:
1) USC finished #1 in at least one of the polls in the past 2 years. That alone gives them a claim at 2-NC's and a legitimate run for a 3-peat. If Auburn,LSU,Texas,Ohio St or any other school was in the same position, they would be screaming 3-PETE! too. So we can all shut up about that.
2)Texas has done what they needed to do to get to the NC game(assuming they beat another pitiful Big12 team in the B12 title game). Yes the Big 12 was very weak this year, but Texas didn't play to the level of most of the conference. The Longhorns stepped it up enough to win every game they played. That alone, is more than any other school(aside from USC)has done this season. There are some great programs out there, but they had their letdowns and didn't get it done week in and week out.
3)The BCS is bullsh*t! We all know it, hell the BCS knows it. But it's not about right and wrong or even National Championships for that matter- It's about money. The appearance of settling the National Championship in National Title Bowl game is it's biggest selling point. Aside from that- the BCS claims to bring the next best 6 teams together to pair off in 3 other BCS bowls. They do this by inviting conference champions before they have proven to be the best. Conference champions bring in more money than better teams that aren't conference champions. At least that seems to be the format.
4)Hype sells! It sells advertisement space. It sells the public on bowl matchups. Hell, it even sells the average fan on believing their team deserves a shot at something.Conference loyalty is at an alltime high, mainly due to "Confernce Hype". Everyone's conference is better and tougher than everyone else's.- Bullsh*t! Someone's conference has to be better and tougher-but who's right? According to all the postings I've read on the various blogs-The PAC10 are media darlings. The ACC looks tough, plays tough, then forgets how to paly football for a few weeks, before getting back on track. The Big East is turning in to the Big Easy. The Big12 get all the credit until they have to show up and play somebody. The Big10 has more great traditions than great teams. The SEC is supposed to be so good that it takes an SEC team to beat an SEC team, or at least thats the excuse we keep hearing.
5)Playoff's won't stop the arguing, but they will crown a true champion. The other major college sports have playoff's. But no other college sport makes the money that Football does. See, it's not about football championships -it's all about the money. Schools pocket millions, networks pocket billions, and the fans have something to argue about. It's a WIN-WIN-WHINE situation. As a true fan of the game, I won't be watching any of the BCS bowls. Try watching the Division 2 and 3 playoff games if you get the chance. The stadiums aren't as nice, the coaches aren't as good and the players aren't near as talented as Division 1 schools, but at least they are actually playing for something. And no poll, writer or even disgruntle fan can take away what they earn.HOOK 'EM '05 said:

Fan of the game, I agree with you. We are bias towards are favorites on here. I'm just having a little fun and I hope Tommy Trojan is to. I don't really mean all those things I wrote. I was was just playing around. To be 100% honest, I feel USC probably will 3 pete, but I think Texas is like no other team they played. I also feel that Virgina Tech, with a more experienced Marcus Vick can beat anyone in the country. Fresno State broke my heart by losing to Nevada. Man, I wanted those kids to play a top 10 team in a bowl game. As far as the Bowls go, I will watch every game I can.
