Which BCS coaches have longest BCS drought?
The noble and esteemed paulwesterdawg from Georgia Sports Blog has assembled the list of BCS conference college football coaches with the longest BCS game droughts.
At the top of the list? Arkansas's Houston Nutt. Nutt started with the Razorbacks in 1998 but has yet to make a BCS game.
Second on the list? Perennial hot-seat coach Tommy Bowden of Clemson. Bowden was brought on to get the Tigers to a BCS game in 1999, but he's yet to deliver.
Here's the Top 10: 1. Houston Nutt (Arkansas) - 1998 2. Tommy Bowden (Clemson) - 1999 3.(T) Mike Leach (Texas Tech) - 2001 3.(T) Al Groh (UVA) - 2001 3.(T) Greg Schiano (Rutgers) - 2001 3.(T) Gary Pinkel (Missouri) - 2001 7.(T) Chan Gailey (GT) - 2002 7.(T) Mark Mangino (Kansas) - 2002 7.(T) Jeff Tedford (Cal) - 2002 7.(T) Bobby Johnson (Vandy) - 2002 Almost on the list: 1. Tom O'Brien - Just missed the top position on the list. He joined Boston College in 1997, but he moved to NCSU this year.2. Glen Mason - Was hired at Minnesota in 1997. However, he got fired last month thereby eliminating him from the list.
3. Jim Leavitt - USF coach since 1996. However, USF has only been a BCS school for 2 years.
4. Randy Edsall - UConn coach since 1999. However, UConn has only been a BCS school since 2004.

I'm reminded of when Don Nehlan ran the Mountaineers. Sadly, he had the distinction of having lost 8 bowl games in a row; one of them for the National Championship, against a Notre Dame team reputed to be one of the top 10 teams of all time. ESPN put up a list of the names of coaches who had lost 6 or more bowl games in a row. Oddly, Bobby Bowden was among them with one stretch going 0-7-1. Notre Dame recently has taken on the distinction of having gone to 9 straight bowl games w/o a win. However, one cannot blame that on Weiss, given he's been there only 2 seasons. I'm curious as to these numbers; i.e. what coaches and what teams have the longest bowl winless streaks.

Loyd Carr! (Michigan) Great accomplishments list -
1 - goes 12-0 in his third season and wins the Rosebowl, and a split title.
2 - drops his first two meetings with Joe Paterno, but rebounds to win eight consecutive games against the legend.
3 - After winning the Rosebowl in 97' Carr play's five SEC opponents in five consecutive bowl games and win's four of the five games against
Arkansas,Alabama,Auburn,and Florida, boasting a 5-2 record against America's toughest conference.Since then........
1 - Carr drops his third Rosebowl in four years, and his fourth consecutive bowl loss.(the seniors legacy: they never won a bowl game)
2 - Carr loses his third consecutive game to hated rival Ohio State and his fith loss to coach Tressel in six years.
3 - the 2005 seson is the worst season for Michigan in over 25 years.
4 - Carr ends three consecutive season's with 2 losses.Carr is 5-7 in bowl games after a 5-3 start, but when you see who they have played, it is half understandable - USC 2 times,Alabama 2 times,Texas,Nebraska,Florida,Tennessee,Auburn,
Arkansas,Washington state, and Texas A-M.Carr was responsible for cooper getting the boot from OSU after beating him 5 times in his first 6 years, but since then Tressel has beaten Carr 5 times in 6 years............
Mr. Carr you've been a good coach, and had lot's of good win's but after a great 07 season and beating OSU at home, it will be time to retire respectfully, fire Mike Debord, and PLEEAASE name Ron English as the Next Head coach of Michigan.

Nutt really has a problem clearing the hump, dunna he?
Personally I hope the guy stays large and in charge, because his name affords me endless opportunities for great article lead-ins. (Kevin has had his own homeruns -- 'Nutt wants Dick in Pocket against Cocks' was one for the hall of fame.)

How many BCS games have the Irish blown in the past several years? I'm half being a smart ass, and half curious. I know they've lost 9 straight bowl games, but I'm wondering how many of them were BCS games (All of them were undeserved thought), so someone please fill me in.

Paul, I admire Joe Pa for his ability to win the bowl games, but I think he could do better in the regular season, I mean getting blown out by a very weak ND was unexcusable, and he has lost eight consecutive games to Michigan, and I do not believe he has ever won a game at Ohio State.
Certainly Joe Pa has found out that The Big Two conference is....well, uhhh, it's still the Big Two.

CUTiger01:
its hard to read bowden and terry don phillips these days, terry don phillips has a dedication to bowden, and bowdens only real problem is motivation, he never gets the guys motivated enough to play, if he could do that, we could make a run at a BCS game.FSU1979 said:

While everyone is bashing Lloyd Carr and Tommy Bowden, let's give a little credit to The Man:
Bobby Bowden has had his problems of late but during the unbelievable run he had between 1987 and 1995 Bowden won bowl games against Nebraska (four times!), Auburn, Penn State, Texas A&M, Florida and Notre Dame. Those nine games were preceded by five other bowl wins (but against the likes of West Virginia and Indiana).

Our 10-win season included wins over teams with a combined record of 54-70, and when it came to top-10 opponents we were 1-4. That's the story of his career here.
