Ohio State QB suspended for Alamo Bowl

Ohio State starting QB Troy Smith was suspended today for the Alamo Bowl for violating NCAA standards and rules, according to coach Jim Tressel.

Tressel's comments

"All of our players, including Troy, know they have a number of responsibilities to fulfill in order to have the privilege of playing at Ohio State. Troy has not fulfilled those responsibilities and therefore will not be able to play in the Alamo Bowl."

No further details are available as of yet.

Ohio State AD Andy Geiger has petitioned the NCAA for Smith's reinstatement in 2005, an indication that the type of violation is severe.

Considering the cloud of allegations around OSU in recent months, this is likely the last type of story the school wanted, or needed to hear.

Heard that WTVN radio reported he was seen spending hundred dollar bills around town like maybe it was a money gift issue.

Jeff - you mean to tell me that football players in Columbus could be getting booster money? Frankly, I'm shocked that such a thing could happen. :)

Actually the rumor is that he DID sell his NC ring and the broker tried to sell it on eBay. Several people have emailed saying that it is his ring, but nothing to substantiate it.
