Solich Reportedly Out at Nebraska

ESPN reported during a break from the Hawaii-Alabama game that Frank Solich is out as Nebraska coach despite finishing 9-3 with a victory over Colorado yesterday.

UPDATE: The Omaha World-Herald reports that Solich was terminated tonight after a 5-minute meeting with the Athletic Director. The assistant coaches will coach the bowl game.

He needed to go! Anytime that you make a decision on personel(Crouch vs Newcomb) and one guy decideds that he does`nt like the fact that he`s not going to be the starter, then the coach not only begins to question his choice, but "runs after" the person who`s mad.......................... who was in charge? When`s the last time Nebraska had a 1000 yrd rusher? When`s the last time Nebraska did`nt get their share of the "cream of the crop" when it came to recruiting? I could go on awhile longer however the points been made.

Nothing says thank you for beating a rival like a swift kick in the butt. I would have no problem with this move, if Steve Pederson(AD of Neb.) hadn't made a move a few days ago to squash rumors of the job opening. Steve needs to learn that giving someone a false sense of job security is bad for future coaches, in terms of how safe they feel as a coach.

The Omaha paper's story notes that speculation among the Nebraska assistants is that Pitt's Walt Harris might be a candidate for the job. Well, if anyone watched the Pitt-Miami game last night, they should be reasonably well-acquainted with Harris' strengths (passing game) and weaknesses (interior line play). Doesn't sound like a good match for the Huskers, if you ask me.

I've heard (don't know the reliability of the rumors at this point) that Nebraska is also looking at Jim Grobe at Wake Forest.

To me, that makes a lot of sense - Grobe can only go so far at WF, and he definitely understands option-style and running offenses. I also think that Solich was handled badly by Pederson, who was a great AD at Pitt, but that environment is nothing compared to Nebraska.

Nebraska has to get back to recruting the most powerful, strong, corn-fed boys they can get. They got away from power running and it obviously hurt them.

Agreed that Grobe would be a strong coach at Nebraska. I'm not sure you could convince the Nebraska boosters to hire him, but he would be a good choice. He's been exceptional at Wake and should have been the two time Coach of the Year in the ACC.

If they're interested in bringing in a fresh perspective, rather than recycling more of the same "underacheiving" stuff, Grobe would be a great fit.
With the recruting prestige of Nebraska, he'd have a great chance to leave his mark on the program.

I think the firing of Frank Solich is a travesty ! What prospective coach of the Huskers would want to take a job where a 9-3 season is not good enough !

I have lived in Nebraska my entire life, and have been a long time husker fan ! This decision by Steve Pedersen stinks, and has a foul smell of booster dollars ! I hope Steve suffers the same fate as Coach Solich ! The sooner Pedersen is gone, the better in regard to Husker Althletics !!
