Future Big 12 bowl assignments

As previsouly reported, the Big 12 has revamped it's bowl lineup. Here's the breakdown for the Big 12 bowl schedule, beginning with the 2006 season:

BCS Conference champ

Cotton First non-BCS team

Holiday Second non-BCS team

Gator/Sun Third/fourth non-BCS team*

Alamo Fourth/fifth non-BCS team*

Champs Fifth non-BCS team

Insight Sixth non-BCS team

TBD Seventh non-BCS team

* The Gator would select a Big 12 team in two of the four years of the new contract. The years that the Gator doesn't take a Big 12 team, the Sun gets a Big 12 team. In those years, the Alamo gets to select ahead of the Sun.

I appreciate your following the updated Bowl affiliations as there appears to be a dearth of coverage on other sites.

There are contradictory articles on what current affiliations the Big 12 will keep, but most of the ones I saw say that the Champs Sports (Big Ten vs. ACC), Independence (???) and Ft. Worth (???) are out. Also, I saw contradictory articles on the selection order, but that I saw have the following:

    1. BCS
    2. Cotton
    3. Holiday
    4. Gator (unless they select a Big East team), then the Alamo)
    5. Alamo (unless the Gator selects a Big East team, then the Sun).
    6. Houston
    7. Insight
    8. ???

I fould an OLD article on the official Big 12 website that Madison Hawk is correct on the first 5.

However I have my doubts as to the order of the last 3. Using the order on CBSsportsline, it goes: 6. Insight, 7. Independence, and finally 8. Texas (formerly Houston). Again using the Big 12 site, I can say that the 3 bowls ARE INDEED the other 3 bowls with Big 12 ties. So the Champs Sports and Ft. Worth are indeed out, but the Independence is still part of the package.
