ESPN to mic replay officials
The Big East has given ESPN the green light to mic the replay officials for the Connecticut-Rutgers game. ESPN also have a camera operate in the replay officials' booth, so that the fans can see exactly what is involved in the replay process.
"Conferences are interested in increased public confidence in the system," says ESPN coordinating producer Ed Placey. "The public thinks there must be some confusion, some incompetence up there."
This is a great first for ESPN. I like the idea and think it will pull back the curtain on the process, explaining (but never eliminating) some of the confusion/controversy that replay creates.

I am from West Virginia and pretty tired of the SEC anyway but now I am disgusted by being forced to watch a huge waving Confederate Flag in the background of your announcers. It is RACIST and I am white and there is no excuse for it. It makes me sick. Some people in the SEC obviously are still living pre 1960's. If this is the type of education SEC schools offer about race relations and sensitivity give me the Big East. Greg Collins

good lord
dude, it's a flag. yes. that's right. cloth with colors. Sure it means different things to different people, but I doubt the 18 year old waving it intended for the nation to take that as a sign to go out and treat people of different races poorly.
If that's the first thing that it brings to your mind, then maybe you should spend some time in introspection. You can also turn the channel rather than wallow in guilt and waste my time with some holier-than-thou diatribe to make yourself feel better. "Hey! I'm Greg Collins and everybody in the south is an ignorant racist but I'm not!"
Newsflash, pal. When you start a sentence with "I am from West Virginia..", everybody immediately prepares themselves for idiocy, and you didn't disappoint. Say hello to the dancing outlaw for me.
Back on the thread, this could be interesting although I doubt the conversation between officials will be particularly candid given the fact they know they're mic'd up.
this week: "Well, Dave, I believe we need to reverse the completion looking at the tape since you didn't have a good angle on the reception...doing a great job down there, though."
last week: "Hey Dave, nice call, jackass. We're looking at the tape and the ball hit the ground like three times. What, are you retarded? I slept with your wife on Thursday"Tomcat said:

I really like the idea and concept of instant replay, and like anythink else no system is perfect. In the UT vs TTech game last night, the refs went overboard on the replays. They were trying real hard to call the "perfect game".
There is no such thing. They were even reveiwing first downs and ball spots. It was like giving the opposition a three minute break. They were trying so hard that it scewed up the momentam.
I'm against puting mikes on the refs.Whats next security cameras and urine samples? wait we already have that.Lets put inplants behind their ears and braclets on their ankles.
Bad calls happen in every game, get over it and play football. Move the Pac-10 refs to the ACC, now that would be better than microphones.J THOMAS said:

OFFICIALS ARE RELYING ON TECHNOLOGY WAY TO MUCH, I AM YOUNG, I CAN REMEMBER WHEN NO FOOTBALL HAD REPLAYS AND NOBADY COMPLAINED. I THINK THEY SHOULD DO AWAY WITH IT FOR GOOD. START PLAYING THE GAME LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED. IF YOU MAKE A CROWD EXPLODING CATCH IN THE END ZONE AND THE REFS STOP THE GAME TO DOUBLE CHECK THIS CATCH IT TAKES AWAY FROM THE EXCITMENT.
