Boise State bumping Peterson's pay
Getting Boise State to the Fiesta Bowl has certainly raised the profile of Broncos Head Coach Chris Petersen - the only head coach to get a WAC team to a BCS bowl. And before other teams can come calling, Boise State is stepping in to reward Petersen in hopes of keeping their coach long term.
Petersen signed a five-year, $2.5 million contract earlier this year and will make at least $641,666 this year thanks to various bonuses. Because his team won at least 10 games this season, his base salary next year is $575,000.But the average salary for a Division 1-A coach is $950,000, and Petersen's counterpart at the Fiesta Bowl, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, makes $3.45 million.
Boise State knows first-hand what it's like to see a big-time program deliver a sackful of cash to an up & coming mid-major coach, having seen Dan Hawkins leave the Broncos to take over at Colorado last year.
In that context, bumping Petersen's pay is a smart move - but they're only going to keep him if they can get add a massive buyout to his contract.

Being from Idaho and a long time boise state fan , its nice to know that you fellas got it all wrong about the money . It's not about the money its about winning Peterson will stay .Petrson was the off coor for Hawk. Give props to those who win ,, but respect those who win with class

Its nice to know BSU did win just like they said they would right from the beginning. I know the Sooners are all upset about it but all I can say is they got their clock cleaned right from go. BSU led the first three quarters of the game. HELLO! wake up OSU!!! When ESPN rated BSUs offense as some of the best in college football OSU should have been taking notes.
Ill be the first one to say I was very very suprised to see BSU win. Iam really glad they did though. It's great to rub everyones elses nose in it.All this BS about Boise St doing all these trick plays is a bunch of crap. Sooners need to face the fact that they lost and they can quit their crying now.

Chris Peterson really should be among the Al Grobe's, Greg Schiano's, Bret Bielema, and Bob Stoops' this season as a candidate for Coach of the Year.
Boise St should look to see if Dirk Koetter wants to come back if and when Peterson leaves.
