Cotton Bowl changes name
Goodbye SBC Cotton Bowl, hello AT&T Cotton Bowl.
Following the merger of SBC Communications and AT&T, the annual Cotton Bowl Classic has adopted the new name effective this year.
"We believe the new name will be extremely beneficial for AT&T and for our game," said Gayle M. Earls, Chairman, Cotton Bowl Athletic Association. "AT&T is one of the great global brands, and to have them associated with the Classic only enhances our image as a major bowl game."
January 2nd will mark the 70th AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic, dating back to New Year's Day, 1937.
The existing sponsorship with SBC AT&T will extend through the 2010 game. Three-fourths of every dollar generated by the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic has been returned to participating schools and conferences. Since 1937, the Classic has contributed more than $145 million to participating institutions.

They might as well change the name of the game to the Forgotten Bowl. It has the worst time slot of any major bowl and is played on painted grass at an aging stadium. A winter coat is usually required. As a Sooner fan, I want the Texas Tech win over anything, but I will gladly give the Red Raiders rights to the Cotton Bowl.
The Cotton Bowl Committee needs to move this game to Jerry World in a few years and back a few days to get a primetime slot and make it meaningful again.

AT&T or BCS...it will be fun to watch Texas Tech and Alabama go at it. Great seasons for both teams. All the trash talking by sonner fans won't change the fact that Texas Tech is the #2 team in the Big 12 this year.
Go Tech!

Think maybe the Cotton Bowl committee is waiting for the new Cowboys stadium to be built?? When that is done (and from what I hear it's going to be nice), I bet they switch the game there. The Cotton Bowl itself is on shaky ground now because of its age and state of disrepair. Their contract to hold the Red River Shootout is up in '07(I believe) and doubt we'll see anymore UT/OU games there anymore. I think the Cotton Bowl game will always be tied to the Dallas area but not to the Cotton Bowl itself.

War Eagle is just another sad example of what happens when they cut Alabama state school budgets! Apparently they cut out 6th grade grammar and use of capitals and punctuation. What was it that Hollywood Henderson said about Terry Bradshaw? "He couldn't spell CAT even if you spotted him the C and T"! Know how he feels War Eagle??

Larry is that all you can comment on, my bad grammar. That is actualy a good idea you guys in the small twelve take care of the grammar and we will take care of wining football games and nc when we play for them kinda like lsu when they held oklahoma under 200 yards in the sugar bowl.Well you guys just keep sending overrated teams to the nc game and let them get drilled just like texas will on jan. 4th.I think that will be three years in a row that a small twelve team will lose the nc game, but no your conference is not weak you guys just have bad luck riht. But at least you guys will know proper grammar, thats all that matters when we are talking about footbal I guess.

Gonna have to roll with War Damn Eagle on this one. But, Bro, your gonna have to lose this infatuation with LSU. Lou Saban was the program - and he's in Miami now. I know that the Bengals have talent - but this Miles cat didn't exactly bring it all together.
Some scores: Texas 51 Rice 10, Texas 45 Oklahoma 12, UCLA 63 Rice 21, UCLA 41 Oklahoma 24, USC 66 UCLA 19.
Now, Texas is clearly 7.5 points better than UCLA being that each school played both Rice and Oklahoma at home. Here's the rub: USC beat UCLA by forty-seven points at home. Well, the Rose Bowl is kinda like a home game for USC, isn't it? Being kind, I'd favor USC over Texas by thirty-nine. Survey says: USC 53 Texas 14.
Fact is UCLA poured more points on Rice and Oklahoma than Texas did, 52 to 48 per game. Does this mean that UCLA does in fact have a better offense? It might - the Big-12 has some real sorry teams. Did anyone get a load of that Colorado team that they threw in there for Texas to embarras? I rest my case right there. That pretty much proves it. Anywho, since UCLA only got 19 against USC (it was 59-3 when the 2nd and 3rd string defense took the field near the beginning of the 4th quarter) - I feel pretty good with the idea that Texas might only get 14. Now, clearly Texas has the superior defense of the two teams as they held the Rice and Oklahoma squads to 11 PPG while UCLA gave up 22.5 PPG. Obviously, USC is not going to roll up 66 on Texas. No, the vaunted Texas defense will "hold" USC to 53. Therefore, the 53-14 final score looks pretty valid to me. Heck, the all-american DT Rodney Wright of Texas proclaimed that, "We will dominate USC's offensive line". Well, that pretty much proves to me that Texas will indeed hold USC to only 53 points. This guy will be lucky to live through this game. There are two Samoan's over there that weigh around 670 pounds between them. This clown is gonna be lying face down on the grass every single play. He's gonna have more of LenDale White's cleat marks on his back than the rest of the Rose Bowl turf does combined. And, I have no idea how he is ever gonna bring down Reggie Bush from that position. Hey, but maybe he knows something that I wouldn't understand. Maybe that's it.
To sum it all up: the Big-12 is clearly the sorriest group of teams that I have seen clustered together inside one conference in many many years. Texas did not lose Cedric Benson and Derrick Johnson and magically become a better team. No, they are about the same kinda team that edges Michigan by one point in the Rose Bowl last year (and did not deserve to be there). Heck, they were only able to edge Ohio State by three points because Tressel was still fooling around playing musical QB's. If that game were played today - Ohio State would kick the crap outta Texas! So, gotta agree with War Damn Eagle. The Big-12 representative never seems to play a hard enough schedule to ever get ready for this kind of a game. We'll see if I'm wrong - but, I really doubt it. Last year Oklahoma had Jason White, Adrian Peterson and a host of WR's who are all in the pros now. Peterson finished second for the Heisman and White had just won one the year before. And, this whole team was miraculously snuffed out. And, all of the same hype and hoopla abounded then, "THIS OKLAHOMA SOONER TEAM MAY BE THE BEST IN HISTORY - USC HAS NO CHANCE"! So, what does Texas got? Vince Young? Please! UCLA had Drew Olsen, Maurice Drew and Marcedes Lewis. Didn't even matter. The only thing that I am gonna be wrong about might be the final score. I'm afraid that USC just might have to pound these frauds 70-3!Tommie Trojan

How's that crow taste right about now there Tommie Trojan?
"Frauds"?
"Sorriest group of teams clustered together in one conference"?
Please.
Without the Crap-10 USC would have lost 1-2 games a year during their so called greatest run.
