Peach Bowl name changing
The Peach Bowl's board of directors voted to agree to a new five-year endorsement deal with Chick-Fil-A worth $22 million. The new deal would change the name of the game to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl starting in 2006. The game began as the Peach Bowl in 1968 at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium and retained the name after a move to the Georgia Dome. Chick-Fil-A has been the title sponsor since 1997.
The last contract between the bowl and Chick-Fil-A was a three year deal worth $9 million. The game's payout to teams from the SEC and ACC will increase to over $3 million from the current $2.4 million, making the game the 2nd highest paying bowl outside of the BCS bowls.
The bowl is also trying to upgrade the quality of team from each conference with the ACC nearly ready to give the game 2nd choice behind the conference champion. Similar discussions are ongoing with the SEC. The bowl hopes to become the eventual fifth BCS game even using the Plus One model.

I absoultely despise corporate names taking over Bowl Game titles. I have no problem with 'The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl' or the 'Nokia Sugar Bowl', but there is absolutely no reason to get rid of the historical titles of these great bowls that have stood the test of time.
Was there anyone that cared about that did NOT know that Chick-Fil-A was the Peach Bowl sponsor? Does it make them a few more bucks? Few things in this sport tick me off as much as the evaporation of the great traditions in the face of coporate absurdity.

Gotta love the Rose Bowl...no corporate sponsors on the entire page

Take a number and wait in line ladies and gentlemen, next up, the Cotton Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Gator Bowl, Orange Bowl and Fiesta Bowl! Step right up, open up your wallets and buy your tradition for sale!

Yeah, Skip - nothing says "no corporate sponsors" like "The Rose Bowl Game Presented by Citi" and the throwing Citi onto your logo (front page of the Rose Bowl site).

When they start calling bowl games strictly by who the sponser is: that's the day that I'll just quit watching their games. No kidding. I cannot stand corporate greed to begin with. The people are so asinine that it makes me want to puke. We have to go to every which measure to get these morons out of our eyes (off the TV), off our phones, and out of our computers. We have every single kind of "blocker" for these creeps and they just never give up. I want to know what kind of person it is that runs over to the store and buys anything just because they just got reminded of it on TV? I mean: is there an alcoholic anywhere who would change from Miller to Bud and then back to Coors Light just because a few commercials popped onto the screen. Or, would you really try and change to a "softer gentler" kind of TP just because of a commercial. Who needs to be reminded of "Got Milk"? Gee, might have forgotten that I liked the stuff had you not reminded me. How bout' the commercials for 3M or DuPont? What the heck would I care that you make things simpler and better? That means I'm gonna check out every ingredient of anything every made just to see if 3M or DuPont had a hand in it - before I buy it? Why are you wasting my time? Let's get back to the game already!

Regan has it right. Citibank and the Rose Bowl mutually at least understand how to present a game, back it with corporate sponsorship and not get in your face about it. Chick-Fil-A peach bowl or Peach Bowl presented by Chick-Fil-A - I have no problem with either of those. The "Chick-Fil-A bowl" - I have a HUGE problem with that. That's as bad as the Poulan Weedeater Bowl.
Anyone want to organize a boycott?

This is all a continuation of money moving into college sports. Corporations somehow think this helps them boost their product, it doesn't help them with me. Once a bowl drops its historical name I will only refer to it as a bowl game, so next year the Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl won't be the Peach Bowl, it's only a bowl game. This is a sad state of affairs..........

How much more money can everybody make this year? That must be the first question asked at every single bowl game committee/board meetings.
"Maybe this year we can paint the Fed Ex Logo over the entire field, including the endzones. Who cares about the teams names, we could make another million."

Hello guys, are you blind?
Everything that deals with CFB has something to do with MONEY.
Everytime a school goes on probation...MONEY.
Everytime one school gets skipped over another...MONEY.
The only thing college presidents care about ...MONEY.
It's just sad that the NCAA prides it self on being amteur athletics and uses top-tier players to sell games and jerseys and anything else the school wants to push.

I agree with the majority on this. I can handle (barely) "The Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl", but when you drop the fruit, in this case, it really pisses me off!
"The Meineke Car Care Bowl" is another one. What the hell is that?
Money/Greed is killing college football for me.

I think the worst one was one a few years back that was called the "galleryfurniture.com Bowl". It has since been renamed something else I believe.
What's sick is that in the movie 'Baseketball' during the beginning speech about corporations taking over sports there was a picture of a "Maxi Tampon Stadium". It was funny - because no one actually thought it would happen.
It isn't funny anymore...

For years the Peach Bowl has built as reputation as the best of the "second tier" bowls. Now all that is lost. People know where the Peach Bowl is, Chick-fil-A is not a national brand and it is not immediately associated with Atlanta.
This is just a bad move all around.Bill Jones said:

I still remember the good old days when you could actually go to a college football game and see a game being played. No commercial timeouts, no instant replays, no booth officials. I gave up loving pro sports years ago because of the almighty dollar ruining it and now College Football is sinking fast.

here is the deal. without the money, you would not have the games. with tv cost and the colleges wanting to make the money. college sports need corp. take the corp money out of the NCAA and you will be paying pay per view to see your teams. don't be mad at the corps. they pay alot of money to have there name attached. watch espn and you hear The Peach Bowl 80% of the time. the only time you see Chick-fil-A is in the print and promos and during the game. Chick-fil-A is a great company and where it counts, in the south (in ACC and SEC country) they are very well known. by the way its call branding. if you want the brand Peach Bowl start a corp and pay 25 mill to have it your way. by the way if your favorite team is in the Chick-fil-A Bowl next year, you will watch or maybe even go. i hear they do a GREAT JOB. Loving the EAT MOR CHICKEN.

Thats just bullshit ross....The Rose Bowl can do it with class, why can't other bowls? The Peach Bowl just sold its soul for $$$
If all the bowls are going to end up being called the Chicken Bowl, and the Capital One Bowl, lets just scrap the bowls and get a playoff started...

Chick-fil-A you should be ashamed of yourselves for changing the Peach Bowl name. It is an institution all of its own and putting your name to it is all wrong.
We have enought problems with Sponsor America now trying to decide the out comes of events just to increase its own worth. Just look at Michelle Wie being reaked #3 without ever earning it and Tiger Woods getting paid millions by the sponsors to show up at a tournment and this is several million more than thw winner of the tournment would get. We have a problem with Sponsor America and them with too much power just look at the new NASCAR and see what I am talking about.
Shame on you Chich-fil-A and the rest of Sponsor America.
