New Big East bowl game landing in Tampa?
The Big East Conference is in talks with representatives of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to explore the option of hosting a Big East bowl game at St. Pete's Tropicana Field in 2010. The Big East's current bowl agreements run through 2009, so the first potential game in the dome would be the 2010 season.
'It's pretty serious on both sides,' Big East associate commissioner Nick Carparelli Jr. said Tuesday from the Big East's media days meeting. 'Common sense-wise the Devil Rays have an empty building in December and January, so it would be great for them.'All our coaches recruit in Florida, and Florida is a great destination for a bowl game. We're talking to them to pull all the entities together in Tampa Bay.'
No word yet on what other conference might be approached about the game, or if the second slot would be an at-large bid. The Tampa area is also host to the Outback Bowl at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

That place is a bigger dump than the Citrus and Orange Bowls combined...
Is the BE really that desperate to set-up legitimacy?
If so...
Connecting itself to a bowl game in a place that looks like half of it fell into a sinkhole and (as T-cane pointed out) is known for being a cruddy venue for ANYTHING is just not the way to do it...

The Big East should worry more about drafting teams to get a total of 12 schools in the conference. Doing that and having a conference title game is the best thing they can do to save themselves from mediocrity and oblivion.
Otherwise, there's always roundball...

Just what we all need: another fat-friggen bowl game. We're only up to 32 as it is. This'll make 33. (Hey, GatorHippy, check my math, will ya?) Not to mention, the possible scenario doesn't look that bright. Based upon last year, that would have put Pitt, at 6-6, against say KS at 6-6. Yep, the whole country would have tuned in to see that match-up. Nuff Said!!!

Have you always used LARGE CAPS to get your point across or am I just noticing how annoying that is?
BTW.... give my regards to the VICK family. You alumni must be so proud of your #1 pick and his brother.

Oh joy, just what college football needs....yet another bowl game. How long until we have a bowl game featuring the #7 from the Big Sky versus the #11 from the Big 12, in a game to be played on October 31st? **sheesh**
@ #5 - you are absolutely right. One need look no further than the Diamond Nuts/San Francisco/Whatever its Called Now Bowl. Perfect example.
Now, please. Turn that caps lock off. MAN that makes a post tough to read.

Maybe the thing to do is for college football to recognize the worst team in the US, by sponsoring a bowl between the 2 worst teams. If not the 1st bowl game either team has played in, it would certainly be the 1st one in many, many years. I would think the ESPN crew would have a ball with this one. Just imagine, it could be at some small town in the middle of nowhere, where for just once a year something unique happens. There could be a parade, a bazaar, amusement rides. The game could be played on the field of the local high school or community college. It would be almost like the festival they have for the last guy drafted. It certainly would prove to be more interesting than this.

I actually like the idea of more Bowl Games.
The Reason is simple: The 'mid-major' non-BCS teams often have good records, but get bumped in favor of a BCS-Conference team that brings more money.
That, and who do these Bowl Games hurt? Let the kids with a winning season have a trip and play another game. Most people don't care about games before Dec. 29 anyway, and it isn't ruining anyone's Christmas.
Let the kids play...

#11 the only mids that have a good record are those that play lousy OOC's. Most mids that play good OOC's lose those games and hence their W/L records are not that great.. sure why not let someone play a Sun Belt Schedule then play OOC's against 1AA's and some other bottom feeders from other mids.. they end up 9-3 or 10-2 with a SOS rated 110th and then get a bowl bid... while a team that goes 6-6 or 7-5 in a BCS conference and an SOS no lower than the 60's gets stiffed.. I don't think so

Hey Hokie, VaTech only beat Miami by 7 points in a year the Canes went 7-6. You can call them a thing of the past as soon as you produce a national title, something that Miami has accomplished as recently as 2001. Good luck this year, but you'd better watch out come Nov. 17...

I have no grudges nor ax to grind with anyone here. I visit this board simply b/c I'm a fan of college football and enjoy the conversation here. However, if one is going to type in all caps, solely for the purpose of irritating fellow members of this community - that's just plain childish.
Hokie, its good to read that you condone the Vick's, that's a good piece of impartiality on your part. Now please, respect the members of this board enough to kindly refrain from all the 4-letter words in your posts. And if you're going to be proud, promote and support VT, or any other institution of higher learning, do try to demonstrate some semblance of supposed higher learning yourself - learn the difference between your and you're. Once is a typo, twice is a trend.

#21 Yes bagerballer the use of all caps and four letter words is inappropriate and not suitable behavior for anyone here. This type of inexcusable misconduct is absolutely preposterous and ridiculous. This perticular insensibility demostrates a transitory lack of concern and indifference to others as demonstrated by this disenchanted individual. This inconsiderate character has exercised a rudeness and lack of respect. This transparency of though and dishonorable and discourteous vulgarity is indeed emotional agition without self-control.
This delirium and derangement shows a deterioration of the mental funtions. These maladjustments exhibited by irresponsible social nonconformity are brought forth by a phobia of canines.

does it matter to you any that all of this happened AFTER he attended VT? to my knowledge, they said he started this thing in 2001, that was AFTER he graduated from VT.
i know that it will be hard for us as a school to ever "live this down," but don't think for one second any of us VT alumni condone this activity AT ALL! yes, he represents VT, he is one of the best that ever played for us, but i think it is safe to say all VT stakeholders are beyond upset with this situation. i don't speak for everyone, but it seems to me he went from being a god (on our campus) to being a disgrace.
btw, the man has only be indicted, not convicted. yes, the court of public opinion has spoken, and i'm not defending him, but let's see what happens with this. again, all of this happened post-2001, after he was drafted into the NFL. NONE of this happened while he was at VT....i think that should cut us a little slack???

Please tell me your joking! Are you in that much denial? Do you really think that Vick decided to start dog fighting AFTER he reached the NFL?
Vick was doing it probably since highschool. The only difference is that he was betting $20 bills back then instead of the $100 Dollar bills now.
What IDIOT would work their entire life to make the NFL just to blow it on dogfighting once they make the league? Think about it.

YO! C-D & all ye Hokie-Nation dudes, howzabout a chill with the Vicster & his wag-o-shag antics. This thread is presumably about an alleged dump that the Big East is trying to take advantage of, not the world according to Vic. Before you know it, we'll have PETA on here doing their thing and we'll be justifying the existence of Tony the Tiger at LSU all over again. Besides, don't you think spending potentially 300 million bucks to renovate a facility that allegedly should be burnt to the ground and rebuilt from scratch, only to host an annual bowl game pitting two 6-6 teams, is more interesting than the annals of Michael Vic…………ok, you guys win; give me the link.

denial? no. i feel like i have to defend my school here. sure, bag on Vick ALL you want, what he did was/is sick. but do not try to associate what he did with VT, it's students, or it's alumni, which is what you are trying to do.
he may have been involved in dog fighting before he came to the NFL, but most probably as an observer only or helping with training dogs. maybe he owned a dog or two, who knows. while i do agree even just watching a dog fight is pretty sick, i think the reason he is in trouble NOW WITH THE FEDS is his level of involvement.
when did he open up bad news kennels?? don't think he had to money too before he got to the NFL. did he have the money to raise pitbulls, travel across state lines, and fight them pre-NFL? hmmmmm. most of the stuff the Feds are accusing him off happened AFTER VT: killing the dogs, breeding the dogs for fighting, financing these activities, etc.
like i said, attack Vick ALL you want. but mention VT in the same sentence or post, and infer what he did is something common at VT or that we as alumni and students are OK with it...then i will speak up.
u UNDERSTAND?

Vick should have known you cant walk across the lot without getting some on your boots.
He obviuosly stepped in a pile. Its real green and fresh and it wont wash off too easy

06 Hokie #25: You use the term 'graduated' rather loosely, huh? No worries...
VT can't be responsible for the actions of it's present or former students. In other words, don't draw any parallels back to the school based on one person's actions.
You can't keep a hot story down. We turned this thread into the Vick dog-fight in 6 posts. That, sir, takes talent!
But similar to the Kevin Bacon game, Kevin Donahue wants us to have no more than six degrees of separation from the original thread. Thus:
1)Michael Vick played at Virginia Tech.
2) VT used to be in the Big East.
3) The Big East is the subject of this post.
Easy as pie! Maybe we should make it three degrees of separation... As long as it doesn't involve the SEC!

can we replace the words "vick" and "dogfighting" and replace them w/ "m. irving" and "using, dealing" cocaine".......
not trying to start something with the cane fans......but i was just using your analogy......

Gatorstud(#31),
If you think I'm going to keep quiet about this Vick thing because you brought up a 10 year old M.Irvin story, your crazy. I love bringing up VT/Vick's dirt, Gator dirt (plenty of that lately), and anyone else's dirt. Do I care if Miami's dirt is thrown in my face?....of course not! Gatorstud is right-good post#31 no team or institution can be held accountable for the actions of one inividual and there are literaly thousands of examples.
WareagleAtl your right man, seems like the topic changed from BE bowl to Falcons QB under inditement.
# 34 I disagree with your post
I do not condone the practice of dog fighting and I beleive that it is wrong.Mr. Vick is innocent until proven guilty. He is only under a federal initement for what? dogfighting so what big deal. He has millions of dollars and probably wont spend any time in the Pen. Now if your a Border Patrol agent and you shoot a drug smuggeler in the ass ,adios, the Pen.
Thats the way it works
Had Vick fought chickens instead of Dogs, then no problem. Most people really dont have a problem with killing chickens.
Back on subject The Tampax Bowl

Actually, the Big East need to add Notre Dame as they are already in the Big East except for football. You are right the BCS bowls are enought for us
