Former BYU player pleads no contest
Former BYU receiver Antwaun Harris pleaded no contest Friday to misdemeanor charges of making a false statement to police. Harris originally was charged with making false material statements, which is a felony. The charges stemmed from an incident in which four other Cougar players were charged with several crimes including sexual assault.
Karland Bennett, B.J. Mathis, Ibrahim Rashada and William Turner Jr. were the other players charged and suspended from BYU for a year. Turner, who was 17, provided information to prosecutors and will be tried as a minor. Harris and defensive back Billy Skinner were both suspended in December. They both plan to transfer with Skinner going to Sam Houston State, a I-AA school in the Southland Conference.
