Ex-Irish QB to land at Cincinnati

In a very strange reversal of fortune, former Notre Dame starting QB Demetrius Jones has told Cincinnati football coach Brian Kelly he wants to enroll at the university and play for the Bearcats.

"My whole point of going to Notre Dame was the same reason I committed here," Jones said, according to the newspaper. "The atmosphere on campus, they've got top-notch facilities. They've got a head coach who's been coaching for 16 years, and the offense. I can put some of my best qualities on display. I just think it was a perfect fit."

Jones was originally headed to Northern Illinois before Notre Dame put the brakes on his plan - announcing that they would not release him from his scholarship. After public pressure, the Irish agreed to release Jones under certain conditions. That change of events has led Jones to Cincy and the Big East.

Kelly told the Enquirer he was notified by Notre Dame two days ago that he had been granted permission to talk to Jones.

"A whole bunch of things took place that weren't planned," Jones said, according to the newspaper. "That's the way it goes."

ESPN reports that Cincinnati cannot offer a scholarship to Jones, so he will have to pay his own way this fall and go on scholarship once one comes open in the spring semester.

Jonesy, you may have to pay to play. The qualities you displayed at ND weren't all that great.

why would Cinncinnati want this kid? they seem to be doing pretty good as it is, and who wants a QB that will run away at the first sign of trouble?
