Clemson hires law firm to review athletics

It's really hard to know what to make of Clemson hiring a law firm to review the school's NCAA compliance. While it has been done at several schools before & during NCAA investigations, Clemson AD Terry Don Phillips said the Tigers are not under investigation.

"We don't have any issues," said Phillips, the Tigers' athletic director. "I'd rather be on the front side of the curve than the back side of the curve. And sometimes you can get on the back side of the curve and not even know that you're heading in that direction. And that's the purpose of these reviews."

I think there has been some transition in the compliance office recently with someone moving to another position in the Athletic Dept. I would assume that it might be for the new compliance staff's benefit.

I applaud Clemson's proactive approach towards remaining in total NCAA compliance. This closely resembles the way FSU dealt with the NCAA following the "footlocker" episode when they hired the NCAA's best investigative team to completely over the program. Something else of note it appears there is a "Bowden" involved with this proactivity. coincidence? Possibly, or perhaps once again it shows the high ethical standards the Bowden family wishes to work under at programs they are in charge of.

This is funny one of the most corrupt programs in the History of College Sports, the Tigers higher a law firm, to make sure they can't get in trouble for past violations, and possibly future violations. Anyone who is of sane body and mind knows that clamson's lone "national football championship" would have been stripped from them with major NCAA violations in this day and age. Recruiting violations, academic integrity issues, blatant steroids usuage, and the list goes on. Don't be fooled by anything something is rotten, once again in tiger town, and they are trying to stay ahead of the backlash. Speaking of rotten smell, I think it's a dead tiger which will be found after November 25th. Cause payback is a bitch! Go Cocks Go!

How well-reasoned your opinions are. I guess Carolina's typical win percentage in College Football will do that to ya...

Congrats on the NIT, though :-)

(Gotta give props where they are due, so I can be a jerk sometimes and get away with it) :-)

I just hope the wording of your post is not indicative of the type of education received at South Carolina - "higher a law firm"?? As opposed to what? Lowering a law firm??

I noticed you had to go back 25 years for your Clemson slap and nothing was ever proven. The rest of the world only has to go back a couple of years to see South Carolina recruiting violations that were proven.

A person much wiser than I once said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

CLEMSON - In a move Terry Don Phillips says is purely precautionary, Clemson's athletic department has hired a private law firm to provide independent reviews of its compliance procedures.

Clemson has enlisted Bond, Schoeneck & King, a firm that has offices in New York, Florida and Kansas, to conduct annual reviews of Clemson's compliance process.

LOL. Wow. "Speaking of rotten smell, I think it's a dead tiger which will be found after November 25th. Cause payback is a bitch!"

Yeah...I've heard that four straight years now. Eventually, one of these years, it'll happen for you guys. Speaking of violations, one South Carolina school has had quite a few in recent history. Hint: It wasn't Clemson. Nice try though. Believe it or not, most fans around the country don't buy into the BS you guys sell either. Being below .500 in the major sport that counts...and still talking smack to a rival who literally owns you...kinda hurts the credibility department. But hey, good luck with that whole "payback" thing.
