Clemson - Bama finally ink Georgia Dome date
After months of wrangling, the Clemson Tigers will face the Alabama Crimson Tide next season in a Labor Day weekend game hosted at Atlanta's Georgia Dome.
"This is certainly a game that our players, fans and coaches will look forward to over the off season," said Phillips. "There is a lot of history between Clemson and Alabama from a coaching standpoint, but the two schools have not met since 1975. With the game played on national television in prime time in front of two rabid fan bases in a premier football facility, it should be one of the highlights of the college football season."
...
"The Clemson vs. Alabama game will be an exciting way to kickoff our season," said Clemson Head Coach Tommy Bowden. "Similar to the Florida State game this past year (Labor Day night game on national TV), it will bring a lot of publicity about our program to the nation, which will certainly benefit us in recruiting."
The Saturday night game will be shown on the ABC family of networks as the feature game, either on ESPN or ABC.
The Clemson deal also ensures that Florida State head Coach Bobby Bowden gets his wish - freeing the Seminoles from opening with a conference opponent. The annual "Bowden Bowl" game with the Tigers and FSU will now be shifted later into the season.

Is AL's Wilson a Sophomore; should have 2 more years? I would like to see him in this game. He should have good receivers and Clemson should have a good 2ndary. It should be a battle out there. Definitely fun to watch. A win/win for both schools indeed!!!

The payout must be pretty good for both schools to forgo that all important 8th home game. Anyone heard any of those details?
When they talk about the 'history' of these two schools, what they're really saying is that Clemson's two greatest coaches, Frank Howard and Danny Ford, were both Alabama alums. Ironically, both coaches combined were only able to schedule four games with their alma mater, all in the 1960s.

we bama fans can only pray this offseason that wilson will NOT be starting in the clemson game. i think we can all agree that we'd much rather see either greg mcelroy, nick fanuzzi, or star jackson under center in that game.
