Clemson to interview Bud Foster this weekend?
There are some sketchy reports coming in that Clemson AD Terry Don Phillips will conduct an interview with Virginia Tech DC Bud Foster sometime after the Hokies game at Miami and before Monday.
This would seem to be in line with the opinion that Fanblogs.com posted last month following the ousting of Tommy Bowden.
One name that is getting attention is long-time Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster. Foster, who has coached for 22 seasons for the Hokies, is considered a good recruiter who is well connected. He's an intense and sometimes demonstrative coach, which would be a marked contrast with former Tigers head coach Tommy Bowden. Foster has seen the blueprint for building & maintaining a championship-caliber program. Expect Foster to be one of the names on the short list at Clemson.
Phillips has already interviewed former Oakland Raiders head coach Lane Kiffen last Friday in Detroit and interviewed Oklahoma Sooners DC Brent Venables on Tuesday.
Other names that are expected to be asked to interview (or have already been asked - we're not sure just yet) are Texas DC Will Muschamp and Vandy head coach Bobby Johnson.
There is also a rumor that at least one of our "dark horse sleeper candidates" may be in the mix. If you remember, Fanblogs.com outlined the names of Cincinnati's Brian Kelly, Ball State's Brady Hoke, and Auburn's Tommy Tuberville as potential candidates at Clemson.
As soon as we can confirm the time/place/authenticity of the Foster interview, we will update this post.
UPDATE
The State confirmed that Foster was interviewed on Friday by AD Phillips. HT: Clemson_Joe
