Barnett gets contract offer from Colorado
Well, I guess the great "will he stay or will he go?" debate is soon to be put to rest for the Colorado football team. In recent weeks, Barnett had been linked to a potential opening at Missouri, his alma mater, but most in the Buffs community agree that it was just posturing.
CU boosters confirmed to the Rocky Mountain News that Colorado AD Mike Bohn had made Head Coach Gary Barnett an offer and an announcement on his contract extension could be coming up very soon. Since the university is on record as saying they wouldn't negotiate with Barnett until after the results of an internal audit are complete, Bohn backpedaled when asked about the new deal:
Reached Sunday, Bohn said he "wouldn't characterize it as (an offer)." But he confirmed he and Barnett's representative, John Rodman, have talked and agreed "it wouldn't be appropriate for either of us to say anything through the media."

It just goes to show that all that matters with some schools is the W/L column, not how you get there. Ask Tyrone Willingham... Great guy, did great things for the integrity of the program at ND, but didn't produce the wins.
Barnett has the Buffs looking towards their 4th Big 12 title in 5 years, a fact not lost on boosters and athletic programs. CU needs a wining program to bring in money, seeing as they have the lowest average attendance in the Big 12, and as it's always been with dirty college sports, they'll turn a blind eye to anything else.
Barnett will have a job in CU as long as he wins, and really, why go anywhere else? With black marks on your record, known problems with your past program, and the pressure of producing numbers in the W/L column all over again, staying at CU is Barnetts best option.

Evan - it is nice to hear from someone who is truly clueless. Aside from making an innappropriate 'heat of the moment' comment about a girl kicker, Barnett and his program have face undue and unfounded criticism from a bleeding heart school who is quick to criticize and slow to offer due process. Learn about what really happenned and then make your comments. Give Barnett credit for producing a great majority of fine young men and a pretty decent footbal program all the while dealing with being under a microscope, recruiting under the toughest conditions possible, and dealing with turmoil in an athletic department that up until a few months ago was run like garbage. Congrats Gary... Hope to see you here until you retire.

How about firing Barnett for NOT BEING A GOOD COACH? He cannot recruit, period. He can't coach well enough to compete with elite teams. He has consistently won the Big 12 North which is about as prestigious as your mom telling you, "good game."
If you want to continue to watch a football team mired in mediocrity, so be it. I for one have had enough.

Scandal was a media fed fabrication. I suggest you take a look at this book: http://www.buffaloedbook.com/
CU in fact runs one of the cleanest programs in the nation.

The " scandal " was nothing. You heard all the allegations over and over again, but the vindication was quietly only spoken once. It was a whole lot about nothing.
I would have no problem with Gary Barnett coaching my favorite football team, he's one heck of a football coach who is doing a whole lot with little at CU. When he gets their recruiting back on track CU will be a top team again.

What a sad day for College sports. CU has been through so much scandles, they are listed above, and the head coach gets rewarded? Is this Washington D.C. where you cover each others back ends, or is this Boulder Colorado?
But then again, this is the same school that has a radical "teacher" named Ward Churchill, he called those that were killed in the 9/11 attacks, "Little Eichmans", yet he still has his job.
Colorado University has no shame.

I mean honestly, how can he be getting offers when Rick Nuehisel is coaching powder puff football?
Sad day.
