'Coloradans for Nebraska Football' request new rules for unruly fans at CU games
In the wake of an ugly incident involving the Colorado student section at this year's Nebraska-CU game, the group Coloradans for Nebraska Football has asked the Board of Regents to take action and rein in unruly fans.
Among the new measures under consideration are splitting up the student section or moving it further from the field, adding video cameras to monitor the student section, and adding additional security around the student section. Other actions under consideration are stopping bottles from being brought into the stadium and giving Breathalyzer tests to fans who seem drunk as they enter the stadium.
CU Regent Tom Lucero, joined by Tim Carrothers, president of the Coloradans for Nebraska fan club, also proposed a university ambassador program. The ambassadors, who would include students, would walk around events, talk with visitors and home team fans and alert security to any problems."We would like to see an environment where people from two schools can feel comfortable traveling to each others' stadium in support of their team," Lucero said.
He also asked that the university consider moving or splitting up the student section only as a last resort.
"It can have such a positive impact on a football game, that I certainly would not want to handicap the football team from having them feed off that positive energy by going to that extreme right away," Lucero said.

Maybe if you idiots raised your kids with some respect we wouldnt have this problem. Boulder is a rathole so is the rest of Colorado. Learn how to lose gracefully as well as win gracefully. Your drunk students ruined it for the Colorado fans (and I use that term loosely) who just want to watch a good Buff game.

I agree the actions of the students in the stands was wrong and there must be some action taken by the University to not allow that type of behavior to happen again. However, actions by fans at all Universities can be a problem, including Nebraska, I have travelled to Lincoln over twenty time to watch football games, as a fan of CU I have been verbally abused, my car has been pelted with eggs. Things are not all that different at the University of Colorado as they are at other Universities. A small amount of unruley fans give the majority of fans a black eye, should be punish the majority for the errors of the few. I think not. Lets be realistic about the whole situation and not over react.

They on top of that they have some of the most piss poor fans. don't matter if colorado wins or loses they still go around and bust out car windows with nebraska tags beat up old couples that can't defend themselves its just a game or has the buff fans forgot THAT! Colorado is not all that and a slice of bread.

If you don't want to get burned Nebraska fans, don't get to close to the fire. Colorado fans shouldn't have to give up their right to get drunk and be wild just because you can't enjoy yourself.

Gary is RIGHT ON THE MONEY. The state of NE doesn't have a lot to offer and UN alums move to that gorgeous state to the west, Colorado. Then they complain about CU not being Husker-friendly. I'm a CU alum from the early eighties when the Nebraskas (and Oklahomas, etc.) of the world beat up on us, gloated, and ran up the score. It was a foul memory to be sure. And we have to now extend the hand of friendship? Only if I get to spit in my palm first.

Elizabeth's is RIGHT ON THE MONEY... it's about the inferiority complex inherent in the CU fan. Colorado has just about everything geographically, but is lacking in most other areas, so they resent the fact that some uninteresting state continually kicks your ass.
CU being Husker-friendly? Extend your hand in friendship? Perhaps it's too much to ask that the hand doesn't carry a bottle that you're too willing to throw. Or a battery. Or a rock.
On top of all that, we expect to attend your games without being injured. If you don't like that much, perhaps you could buy tickets, support your own team, and we wouldn't fill your stadium. I suppose that'd require effort, something beyong most CU people who apparently expect everything to be handed to them.

Ok Boulder showed it's true colors that day when Nebraska beat the crap out of a mediocre buff team. Gary barnet just stood there and pouted. Colorado has no school pride. I used to live in Aurora and boulder is a snotty liberal town that thinks they're better than everyone. Well guess what a few nebraska football player just ripped you a new one in boulder. 30-3 big baby. ooh yah i would not be proud if i was an a,um for CU in the 80's. Peace go huskers.

hey Robbie, what part of that right allows you to throw urine filled balloons at the opposing team's fans? I do agree that EVERY school has bad apples and GREAT fans as well. It just seems that there are quite a few of the former when it comes to CU football.

I am an alumni of the University of Colorado and the University of Nebraska. I have strong family ties to the University of Colorado. I graduated from Boulder High School.
Over thirty years ago I was terrorized in the Senior Section of the student seating area at the University of Colorado as a senior at the University of Colorado. This problem is much deeper than football.
The racist and elitist attitudes of both of these universities were mentioned in William Mitchners “Centennial” novel. Nebraska has grown towards the twenty-first century, and the students’ of the University of Colorado (many of which are not from Colorado) are a blemish on that beautiful state. Neither state has too much to be proud of, but Colorado is truly a disgrace and the University of Colorado proved it again this year.
I agree with the “Coloradoans for Nebraska” that the University of Colorado and the civilian authorities of Colorado should take positive actions against assaults to visitors to their state.
What a wonderful thing it would be if these two states could develop a collegiate enthusiasm and rivalry and still honor the extraordinary athletes who entertain them.
Even more wonderful would be the recognition of the purpose of these universities to compete in the world for the betterment of mankind.
And only seldom wanting to say…
We kicked your ass 30 to 3, but tomorrow is another year.. so thanks for the game.

I cannot remember students getting kicked out of any other game I have watched.I do not watch many, but I have not heard of this before either. It must be an embarrassment to all people in Coloroda. What a shame, and while on national television.

Wow, I am amazed at the ability of fans on both sides of this debate to make themselves and their respective states look stupid. I've been to games in Lincoln, Boulder, Columbia, Ames, and Lawrence. In every one of those cities the student section is loaded with drunks. The University of Nebraska knows that drunk students cause problems so they keep the students tucked away where they can be loud, but not disruptive. CU should do the same, and also install a camera system to hold fans accountable for their actions, which are notorious throughout the Big XII, if not the nation.

I am a Nebraska fan in Pennsylvania. I watched the Colorado game on TV. If the Colorado fans get just a little worse they will be up there with the Penn State people. The problems start with drinking and the schools not steping up to control it. I guess they will wait until someone is killed to take action.

I live and nebraska (and like every other nebraskan) is a big fan of nu football...I dont belive that ALLLL Colorado fans are bad, in fact i think many of them are just there to see a good game of one of the best rivarlys in college sports. But it is true that many (not all) of the students are an emmberesment... now nebraska isnt perfect...but we take steps to making any one taht would be an emmbersment out of memorial stadium... All i can hope for is that Colorado can get this under hand.. And this game will once again be one of the best games in college sports!

The new coach needs to install some dignate to a damaged program. No class is the impression that the nation saw on T.V. The Buffs lost 4 games in a row at the end of the season. The players layed down and gave up-no class. Hopefully the coach can show some class and teach his players to improve their overall effort. The Fans that caused the ruckas should have been arrested by the Law.

Stacy, there is this thing called spellcheck. You can find it on Microsoft Word. You might consider typing your posts in MS Word, running spellcheck, and then (and only then) cutting and pasting your masterpiece to this board.
Or you could just keep typing run-on sentences, devoid of punctuation, apostrophes, and conventional spellings of words such as "dumb."
But thanks for the laugh.

I truly wish Colorado residents stop sticking up for the senseless acts that are repeated EVERY YEAR at CU football games. This, my friends, would be why CU is loathed in college sports.
You can say for NU, that they are voted top ten each year as a great place to go see a game. You do, in Lincoln, have to miss out on the cups of vomit, and urine thrown on you. Driving home with a window in tact is nice. The win/lose riot EVERY game. AND THEN THE EXCUSES !!!
It's like this everywhere, right? Wrong ! Accountability is your start, not excuses. The last game I saw CSU-CU (order of class) CU students beat up the BAND??? Excuse please? Research how many teams DON'T BRING THEIR BAND TO BOULDER!!! And about my using spellcheck, JUST ANOTHER HALF A%$ EXCUSE!

What rivalry? Is it a rivalry when Nebraska beats the buffs something like 48 - 17? Plus Nebraska averages 25 pts to the 14 Boulder puts up.
Even if the Huskers had a choice to play them or not, I think they would be one of the early high school teams that they use to pad their schedule before conference play begins.

Colorado should be sanctioned to NO home games untill the fans are UNDER controll.......but the sanctions would probably cause a riot....which would most likely result in the students burning boulder to the ground.......=)

Hey Sucks,
Mediocre? This from a fan of cu which has no class, whiney, druggies, that can't beat anybody, and is considered a high school team (at best). The only thing cu excells at (other than the above) is having a pathetic student section and them trying to start fights at every game.
Oh wait, I'm sorry. That might be considered living in the past, considering that they haven't started a fight with anouther teams fans yet this week. Of course it's not game day yet.

The astronaut part is impressive, except that the 17 CU-trained astronauts, that doesn't mean they graduated from CU. The Air Force acadamy has you beat in that area, b/c ultimatley they have to come to our school for some training. And, let face it, the AFA is a hell of a lot smarter than CU.
CU only has 4 Nobel Laureates
Nebraska has, among other things:
22 Rhodes Scholars and two Nobel laureates

The fans are ranked as the worst in the country.
CU is consistanly in the top 5 for crime, and that include drug possession.

OH wait! Princeton Review gives Nebraska an Academic Rating of 73. And University of Colorado 68. so with all those drugs, distractions, and crime, we're still better academically. And where did you get 3rd from the bottom stuff? Does that mean Nebraska is even lower than CU for education? Not a legitimate argument, I at least have a source for mine. So I guess you're right, CU is worse academically considering they are ranked higher. Hmmmmmm... Interesting.. Oh, and I've been to Lincoln for a football game, and I didn't get shit thrown on me, nor a single negative comment. And CU beat Nebraska that year. So I will agree that us "students" (because I am a current student) suck at sportsmanship. And neb. has a better sports program, but, thats because there is nothing else to do in Nebraska besides husker football. No, NFL team, MLB, NHL, etc.. So Neb. has a huge burden of constantly producing a winning program. Colorado has Mountains, NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA etc.. Nebraska has the Platte River, Lincoln, Omaha, Huskers, Corn, Valentine Neb. and finally my favorite, the fact they live in Nebraska. One of the least liked places to live in the Country.. Besides Wyoming of course

Seriously, everyone knows NE is a terrible place to live, so they all move to Colorado. Then, they complain about Colorado not being Nebraska-friendly enough. I think a better name for their club would be "Whiny former Nebraskans who realize how much better the state of Colorado is, but still want to maintain a love afair with corn".
