Colorado interviews UCLA's Embree, Boise St's Hawkins
CU has taken the first steps towards replacing fired coach Gary Barnett. Buffs AD Mike Bohn interviewed former CU player & assistant Jon Embree, now the assistant head coach at UCLA, as well as Boise State coach Dan Hawkins.
Embree, who would be the first black Colorado football coach, has the support of several influential boosters and former Buffs coach Bill McCartney.
Bohn said he had at least five coaches in mind that he would like to talk to about the vacancy, but it's not clear what the exact timetable will be for finding a new coach or how many candidates might be interviewed.

Embree is a good option but honestly, CU needs a big name if they can convince a Butch Davis. Talk about making recruiting easy. The guy has the track record over a coach like Embree. If CU wants to win now rather than later, go after Butch Davis.

Why in the world would Dan Hawkins want this crummy job? I'd be surprised if he would even take it. He's gonna just get beat up by Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma if he does. Heck, when was the last time that Colorado ever had a decent QB? Hawkins is gonna have to be able to throw the pig around a little bit. I don't recall that Colorado has ever been able to catch the dayum thing. Nope, I don't see him going here. It just isn't the right thing to do. Colorado is one of those Big-12 schools that has always been stuck playing a certain kind of ball. And, I don't see where Hawkins would want any part of that. He's better off in Boise continuing to build a great offense until the "right job" comes along. I think that the San Diego State job might even be a better gig than this.

This "trainwreck" of a program still wins year in and year out. It's one of the rare top tier jobs available in college football.
I wouldn't be surprised if a few more mid-major coaches don't get mentioned in the next few weeks for this - including Fresno State's Pat Hill & UTEP's Mike Price.
