Lubick to retire at Colorado State

It appears the sun is setting on the career of the winningest coach in Colorado State history, as the Rams and Sonny Lubick are in negotiations to have the coach step down following 15 years.

Two major issues remain to be worked out before Lubick officially steps aside after 15 years as the winningest coach in school history. One is how his assistants will be taken care of. Another is Lubick's role at the university. His contract has a clause that says if he retires he can stay on in a fundraising capacity.

"I love the school, the student body, everything. I had 15 years here so good I would not want to destroy or hurt anybody," he said. "These were the best 15 years for any coach, and for all the coaches who worked with me."

Negotiations between Lubick and his agent and CSU are expected to be wrapped up soon.

The Rams finished the season 3-9 after a loss to Wyoming. Lubick is 108-74 all-time at CSU and has two years remaining on his half-million per year contract.

UDPATE: ESPN is reporting that Lubick was offered assistant AD job with the university and will be responsible for fundraising.
