C-USA Expands

This from ESPN. The C-USA has countered the Big East's grab of several schools with its own raid.

Conference USA replenished its league Tuesday by adding Central Florida, Marshall, Rice, SMU and Tulsa. Central Florida and Marshall will leave the Mid-American Conference, while Rice, SMU and Tulsa depart the Western Athletic Conference.

The schools officially join C-USA on July 1, 2005.

Earlier Tuesday, C-USA lost Cincinnati, DePaul, Louisville, Marquette and South Florida to the Big East.

The change also leaves Saint Louis and Charlotte as the only non-football schools in C-USA, they could be the next to leave.

I feel sad for C-USA, they were so promising just a few years ago, being touted in the national media as a great place for the SEC/Big 12 teams to go if they needed quality wins to move up in the BCS. Now, they are officially on par with the WAC.

Losing USF is going to be the biggest blow to the C-USA. The advanatge in recruting those schools gained by having a representative in South Florida will hurt.

I wouldn't exactly refer to Tampa as being "in south Florida". I think the addition of UCF, a mere 90 miles east of USF will offset the USF departure for exposure.
