TCU Frogs should be Princes

New York Daily News columnist Dick Weiss weighs in on the BCS/TCU dilemma stating that TCU has earned attention from the BCS.

A Top 12 finish still would make TCU eligible for BCS. But it's doubtful that will be enough to turn these Frogs into princes on BCS Selection Sunday, especially if USC goes to the BCS title game in New Orleans. The Rose Bowl, which wants a traditional Big Ten-Pac-10 match up, could go with Washington State as an at-large team if the Cougars tie the Trojans for the Pac-10 title and the Fiesta opts for either Big 12 runner-up Texas or Saturday's Ohio State/Michigan loser as the other at-large team.

Even if TCU is perfect, the Frogs most likely will be relegated to the $1.3 million Liberty Bowl.

That should set off the presidents of non-BCS schools like Hal Cowan of Tulane, who are actively lobbying with Congress for greater access and are sure to put even more legal pressure on the BCS to add another game or ease up the qualifications.

"No matter if you think we deserve to be in a BCS bowl, or don't think we deserve to be there, we are 10-0," coach Gary Patterson said as he left the field. "Everybody is more caught up in this BCS thing than we are."

While I don't agree that TCU is one of the best teams in the nation, they should be included in the BCS for one simple reason, the team's undefeated record.

We can co back and forth for weeks about the quality of the opposition, strength of schedule and so on, but you can't escape the fact that an undefeated regular season is a rarity. One, maybe two a season can accomplish it. Whether or not you agree that Brandon Hassell and Co can win a BCS game, the simple fact that if the team remains undefeated through the regular season means they should get a seat at the table.

They will most likely get thumped by the perennial BCS teams, but in a sport where the regular season has such gravity, you must be rewarded for running the table.
