Solich was offered the Army job

According to ESPN's Ivan Maisel Frank Solich was offered the job at Army by Superintendent Lt. Gen. William Lennox. Solich considered the offer and reportedly seemed prepared to accept when he declined the offer. According to sources, Solich was concerned about recruting at Army, as well as the timing of the move.

Lennox has made an effort to find a high-profile coach to take over the Black Knights' program, and restore them to a level of credibility. The difficulty with finding a coach of this nature will be tied to the problems that any coach at Army will have with attracting quality players.
The appeal of being forced to skip the NFL to join the Army after graduation appeals too few hiigh-caliber young men in America. Army should save their cash and find a competent young coach to run the team, a big name would be wasted on the program.

Yeah, recruiting to the academies really doesn't exist in the same regard as recruiting to anywhere else in the country. I think you basically have to find kids that want to go to an academy, and then recruit them to yours.

Coaching at Army would seem to be just playing the cards your dealt and trying to call smart games.

Yeah, and Navy is a good example of being able to put together a good team with what you have available.
