No love lost between TCU, Texas Tech
The Horned Frogs closed practice this week for the first time this year, but not because Texas Tech is a "big game", insisted TCU Head Coach Gary Patterson. Instead, it's because Patterson doesn't want NFL scouts tipping his hand to the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech refused to trade game films with Texas Christian for this week's matchup. The incident is just one more Tech thorn in Patterson's side as it relates to Texas Tech. Three years ago, Leach stepped in to stop RB Shaud Williams from transferring to TCU. Leach would not release Williams from his commitment unless the RB went out of stay (he later transferred to Alabama).
While Patterson doesn't question those motives, he took exception to the fact that Leach granted running back Foy Munlin a release to transfer to SMU in 2003."If you're going to have a rule, keep the rule," Patterson said. "I don't appreciate that."
Other game notes:
- TCU starting QB Tye Gunn will start for the Frogs after leaving last week's win over SMU with bruised ribs.
- DB Quincy Butler will start in place of DB Jerome Braziel because he's a more physical back & gives TCU a physical cover corner against the Red Raiders receivers.
- TCU is upping the pressure on K Peter LoCoco, who missed two field goals in the 44-0 win over SMU. For every miss LoCoco has in practice, the entire team has to run an extra minute in drills. LoCoco missed just one kick in practice.
