Petrino cashes in on rumors
For the last two years, Louisville's Bobby Petrino has been the Bigfoot of college coaches - people swear up & down they've seen him interviewing on campuses nationwide. Well, it looks like Bigfoot is going to be staying home for a while.
Louisville increased Petrino's contract from $550,000 to $1 million a year, plus $50,000 if the Cardinals reach the BCS title game and another $50,000 if they win it. Petrino's contract runs through 2010, with a $1 million bonus if he's still with the Cards in 2007.

Forgot to mention that last week, rumor around Baton Rouge was that Petrino had "expressed interest" to LSU through "indirect sources". It's quite possible that there were discussions and he didn't hear what he wanted to hear, and that led him to sign the contract and say he wasn't leaving. Mind you this is pure speculation based on talk radio rumors, so take it with a grain of salt.

Are you serious? You're joking, right? Petrino would have a *better* chance @ LSU than the Big East? Hell, the Big East next year is CAKE. He's in the BCS just by getting his team on the field. If they got in the BCS top 10 this year in C-USA, imagine what an undefeated Louisville looks like next year with some better caliber wins.

There's no question he'll leave. LSU paid Nick Saban more than any other coach in the country. Over $2 mil. UofL is only paying him $1 mil. Inevitably, it's all about the money. Remember Rick Pitino at Kentucky. He went to the Celtics as, unwise as it may have been, because of the money.
Petrino has to seriously be considering leaving. Just last week he was talking about how much he loved Louisville and that he wasn't going anywhere. To throw that all away, to make all the UofL fans bitter, he has to be seriously considering it.

He's pretty high up on LSU's list right now (he's #2 or #3 depending who you listen to), and they can easily double what he's making. And, with all due respect to the Cardinals, he'd ulitmately have a better shot at a national title at LSU that at Louisville.
I'm not saying he's leaving, I'm just saying it could happen. Remember, Tuberville positively assured everyone at Ole Miss he wasn't leaving just a few days before he left.
I wish the article said something about the buyout clauses in Petrino's contract.
