If Petrino goes, Linehan wants to return

With all the talk of Bobby Petrino taking the head coaching position at LSU, Louisville is left to wait like one of the contestants on The Bachelor. At least one former Cardinal's name is popping-up in "what-if" conversations.

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Scott Linehan would be a top candidate to return to Louisville. Linehan, Louisville's offensive coordinator from 1999 to 2001, has lead the a Vikings offense that has been ranked in the top three in the NFL for the past three seasons. Lineham was the driving force behind the development of NFL QBs Dave Ragone and Chris Redman.

Louisville booster take note - it's just a matter of time before Petrino leaves. If it's not LSU, it will be some future destination. Brining back Lineham just might be the way to go.

It wouldn't totally shock my sox if Skip Bertman hired Linehan.

One of the highly understated rumors is that LSU is quietly waiting until they're "granted permission to speak" with the very type of NFL assistants you're talking about. Let's see what the rumor mill grinds out Sunday evening.

this will be the downfall of NCAA, schools have to buy out coaches that don't work out but coaches are free to leave when ever a better offer is availible,no strings. Why not make them sit out a year like players must

There are usually strings now. Most buyouts go both ways now and a coach has to buy his way out of the contract to leave.
