Damage Control in Louisville

A day after Louisville AD Tom Jurich considered firing Bobby Petrino but opted to honor his contract, Petrino apologized for the media circus created by his interest in the LSU opening during the week leading up the Liberty Bowl.

From the Louisville Courier-Journal:

Petrino said watching Jurich speak Sunday "was hard on me a little bit, to be honest with you. There was a question of whether I was going to have a job here ... so to hear some of that was difficult on me."

"I think that's my biggest concern, to get my relationship with Tom back to where it was," Petrino said. "Tom is a terrific athletic director and a better friend. He went out and put a package together that is not only competitive with everybody but will allow my family to be secure. ... I will do everything in my power to get back and repair the relationship and get it back to where it was."

Petrino has been thoroughly ripped by the Louisville media, including two stinging columns by Rick Bozich of the Courier-Journal. His Sunday column called for Petrino's firing and this morning's column again calls Petrino's credibility into question.
