CW: 'BACK FROM VACATION' EDITION

Week 8
Date:
10/20/2005
CW took last week off, but we're back in the action this week to track the trends in college football.

CONVENTIONALwisdom
"BACK FROM VACATION" EDITION
Memphis RB Williams up 5,000 yards is a lot, regardless of how weak your competition is.
NCSU Jumbotron Operators down It's pretty tough to believe how anyone thought the Mexi-cam incident was a good idea... but it sure is a poor reflection on the university.
Notre Dame ??? They looked great against USC, but losing McKnight and Fromme will hurt, and the computers have no love for the Irish with their 0-2 home record.
Instant Replay up No, it's not fool-proof, but if it fixes more than it messes up it's a net gain. Besides, it'll allow us to find officials who are really, really awful.
Alabama ??? The questions spawned by the Prothro loss have yet to be answered. Tide fans should hope that the lackluster performance against Ole Miss was on account of a focus on Tennessee.
Texas up The Longhorns jumped the Trojans in the Master Coaches Survey and have room to gain a little more ground this week if they can handle Texas Tech.
Big Ten ??? Does anyone have a clue what's going on in the Big Ten? It's a complete mess
Virginia Tech up The Hokies are sitting quietly in the background waiting for Texas or USC to slip up. Georgia and Alabama looking for a little help as well.

The Big Ten race is all messed up. Even if you look at the standings upside down, it still doesn't look right. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that the Badgers are tied for the conference lead... but it's so WRONG!

I don't see what's wrong about Big 10. Competition is good! Having a couple of teams dominating a conference year over year is not very exciting unless you root for one of them.

Wow some real original insight. The jumbo tron at N.C. State is handled by an outside company, and the Mexican person they focused on was actually an employee with the company that runs the jumbo tron. Do a little research next time or try to do some original thinking before you just copy what you read off of some blog. Just a little conventional wisdom for ya

Jeopardy: the problem is that it's not the least bit consistent. At all. Not even a little bit.

As for "pimpdaddy" ... if you honestly think that makes what happens any better, you need some help. None of these 'new' 'facts' that you've brought up, you'll note, change anything about my analysis of the situation.

I have black friends that I can joke with about race, that doesn't mean the rest of black America thinks it's funny. Bad move, whoever engineered it.

Hey, Pimpdaddy, at least NC State doesn't have The Negroscope.
