ODU football to return in '09

Despite falling short of its initial fundraising goals set last year, Old Dominion University is proceeding with plans for football to return to the school in 2009. $5M to $6M was raised in the past year and the remaining $2M is expected to be raised by smaller contributions and by raising student fees.

ODU has 21,000 students and was originally a two-year campus of William & Mary. The school would be playing in the Colonial Athletic Association at Foreman Field. Football was last played there in 1940 and a revival attempt in the 1980s failed.

    It'll be awhile before they're competitive.

    Here's how instate recruiting in VA goes:

    Really good players go to Va Tech.
    Really good players who can read go to UVA.
    Good/Ok players go to JMU(national title 2 years ago in their division.)
    Good/Ok players who can read go to Richmond or William and Mary.
    Also schools such as Va St. and Va Union will recruit from ODU's area.
    And to top it off if there are players who like to play football and shoot guns(which is not unheard of around that area) there's always VMI.

    ODU will do just fine recruiting and a contender in a few years.
