ESPN GameDay headed to Southern - Grambling
Strap it on SWAC - ESPN College GameDay is headed to Houston for the State Farm Bayou Classic. The visit marks the first broadcast for GameDay from one of the historically black colleges and universities.
“It is an extreme honor to be the first HBCU football classic to be highlighted on College GameDay,” said Dr. Ralph Slaughter, the Classic’s coordinator at Southern University. “This game is one of the best sports experiences in America, not just black college sports.“The Bayou Classic is much more than what happens on the gridiron,” said Dr. Angelia Weaver, the Classic’s coordinator for Grambling State University. “It's about the history, tradition, fierce competition and a fight for national bragging rights for the year,” she added.

the fact that everyone is bringing up the half time show as the highlight proves this game is not important. The game isnt even in Louisiana, gameday is being shot indoors from the Texans stadium with no fans present. This is a joke, and a waste of a college football weekend. Poor job GD crew.

Actually, "Nick" most of the people here are bring up halftime IN ADDITION to the game. Saying things like "great game, make sure to stay for halftime". No the game isn't in Louisiana, but you may have heard of a little weather event called "Katrina". Unfortunately Reliant Stadium is the closest stadium with the capacity to host the event - and I amd from Louisiana and have been upset that more Saints games have not been played there. The classic actually draws about 3 times more than the 70K game attendees to a city as given the other activites of the weekend.
I know YOU don't know and other might be intersted to know, the battle of the bands at halftime is not the official Battle of the Bands. That is competition that takes place on Friday night (though is till worth much bragging rights).
