ESPN College GameDay headed to Florida-LSU

Get ready, Gainesville, because ESPN College GameDay is headed back to the Swamp for the first time in nearly three years. ESPN has confirmed that the crew will be on campus this week in advance of the LSU game and conducting its live broadcast from outside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday morning.

ESPN's last GameDay telecast from UF was for the 2003 Florida-Florida State matchup.

It's about DAMN time the SEC gets respect. The #1 conference all year and on Separation Saturday they opt to go to LA to see USC vs. Nebraska when they shouldve been in Rocky Top or to the LSU/ Auburn game which were classic SEC battles and the USC game was a cupcake Pac10 blowout for 3 quarters.

Don't forget, Tennessee/ UGA is gone be a good one too!

Mark Richt is due to lose, I think. Doesn't the luck have to run out sometime? I wouldn't have a problem as a georgia fan except a close game to a 0 win team would probably not be fun to watch. I pick tennessee to win but when two great football teams I respect get together to play I really don't care which one wins. Florida LSU I call LSU to win and Florida to be EXPOSED.

    Oklahoma & Texas
    LSU & Florida

    USC beats Washington
    Oregon beats Cal
    TT beats Missouri

I think the Oregon/Cal game should be a great one as will LSU/Florida and OU/Texas.Some great games this week!T-Mac

I saw Georgia / Colorado. I think Georgia will rally around this game at home and Ainge is due for another meltdown. I'm actually a Tennessee Vol fan...

I am going to the Oregon Cal game in Berkeley, don't have TIVO (I'm old school) so I am going to miss a few games on Saturday. Hopefully the UOAA will have a TV at their pre-game tailgate party.

Away games are a drag though because you get the absolute worst seats. Memorial still uses Porta-ets and they don't sell beer to the great unwashed. Makes more sense to stay home and watch it...but my wife wants to actually go to the game in the Peoples Republic of Berkeley!!! How's that for a great spouse?

Mayor and T-Mac, I disagree with ya on 2 things. I think that the Oregon Cal game is unpredictable and I think that Missouri will beat Texas Tech. Other than that, we all see eye to eye on the rest. LSU and Flordia will be good, and I am excited as h@ll about OU/Texas. I really hope the Sooners can pull it off. I guess we'll find out. Later. Go Sooners! Beat Texas!

    Neville,

I believe that ESPN's not going to the Red River Shootout because it's at the Cotton Bowl and not on a college campus.

Also they were just in Austin. If both UT and OU were undefeated (and yes the Sooners should be!) it might be different.

Too bad though, because the three caballeros could have Steaks and Martini's at Bob's Steak and Chop House on Lemmon and Wycliff in the great city of Dallas. Best steak in the nation from my experience.

The Pac-10's Top Six teams most recent records against SEC competition. We'll start with the lowly Cal Bears:

    1987 California 12 Tennessee 38
    2006 California 18 Tennessee 35

    Disgraceful!

    2005 Arizona State 31 L.S.U. 35

    1989 Washington 34 Florida 7

    2002 Oregon 36 Mississippi State 13
    2003 Oregon 42 Mississippi State 34

I know these games don't count!

    2000 U.C.L.A. 35 Alabama 24
    2001 U.C.L.A. 20 Alabama 17

    Say what? No way!

    2002 U.S.C. 24 Auburn 17
    2003 U.S.C. 23 Auburn 0
    2005 U.S.C. 70 Arkansas 17
    2006 U.S.C. 50 Arkansas 14

Hmmm! in the last games where the SEC would be brave enough to take on the elite teams of the Pac-10: the score reads Pac-10 9-3 while outscoring the SEC 395 to 251. Or, is that 32.9 to 20.9? Thirty-three points a game on those tremendous defenses? No way!

Now, we clearly have a picture of why the SEC really does not like to play against the upper echelon Pac-10 teams. But, hey, they can always schedule Arizona, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State - they might get a convincing win somewhere in here if they put one of their very best teams up against one of our worst.

    Tommie:

That's a ridiculous post. You criticize SEC for playing weak PAC 10 teams, but then you list USC routing Arkansas? Since when is Arkansas a top SEC team? Woooo! Whipped a 4-7 team!

And USC defeated Auburn in 2002 and 2003, when Auburn was down. UCLA's defeats of Alabama in 2000 and 2001 was when Alabama was down. Come to think of it, Alabama is still down.

It's kind of difficult to schedule teams in the future knowing how they're gonna be 7 years in advance. When LSU scheduled Arizona in 1998, they were coming off a fiesta bowl victory over Notre Dame.

And the lowly Cal Bears? Who the hell else is in your pathetic league?

Tell me what your record is against OUR TOP 5 in the last 5 years (since 2002). LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida.

I seem to remember LSU beating the crap out of Arizona (twice), beating Oregon St., beating ASU on the road, Tennessee crushing then 10th ranked Cal (the only supposed threat to USC). Oh yeah, that same Arizona team that LSU manhandled gave USC fits...

    People:

I am being fair and balanced. I am not putting down the elite teams in the SEC. I am only showing that the better teams in the Pac-10 do just as well as the SEC's top teams do. I just took the last few games of each top Pac-10 team and showed how they did against SEC competition regardless of who it was. I did not show how Tennessee clobbered UCLA on several occasions way back when. But, they did. This year the SEC is once again the top conference - so far. But, as we all know - the Top Pac-10 and SEC representatives rarely meet. This is in no way a poor reflection on the SEC because the top Pac-10 teams have done well. I'm just pointing out that the Pac-10 can play well also. One win over California is not the end all of end all's. It was a great win for Tennessee, and it may loom larger later on as Cal continues to bury opponents, but it does not mean the Pac-10 is a bad conference because Cal lost to Tennessee in Knoxville. The problem is: the Pac-10 never gets any credit for the games that we do win. For instance, when USC hammers Arkansas - Arkansas is all of a sudden a terrible team. Same went when Auburn got beat. But, years ago when Tennessee was mauling UCLA - Tennessee got to be a great team. And, they were. UCLA wasn't that bad in those days. The Vols just made them look that way. Same thing with Arkansas. They are not that bad. USC just has their number.

    Okay Kevin:

My take is that LSU beats Florida in Gainsville. I consider LSU to be a premier team and I am not quite sure that Florida is there yet. I may be wrong again. Both teams have great QB's, but physically, LSU has been imposing for several years now. I think that will be the difference in the game. I realize that Florida may be able to do alot of dink and dunk things and possibly pull off the upset. But, I don't think that LSU is gonna let what happened to them at Auburn happen again this time.

I'm wondering why no one is arguing the ACC's case this year.... Oh wait, nevermind. Even though we have 5 ranked teams this week everyone knows it will probably be two or less very soon. Especially since just about every ACC team has only conference play left. Man we look like CRAP this year and our OOC games are total yawners with like let us see....
    GT - ND
    FL - FSU (annual game)
    CLM - SC (annual game)
    GT - GA (annual game)
    UM - Louisville
Should about cover the nationally televised OOC games (saturday ones are all I'm counting, they televise any pillow fight on Thursday).
What happened to VT-WVU? I thought they played every year...

ACC play is boring this year!
Course we would probably have two other ranked teams if we didn't put trash like Rutgers, Missouri, and Boise State in the top 25 just because they are 0 loss. 'Course Wake isn't really top 25 material either, but if they beat clemson next week (like they did 2 out of the last three years and almost did the other year as well)....

BTW 5 teams in the top 25 is tied for first as a side note with the SEC.
Then it is the big 12 with 4
All other BCS coferences have 3
The last two teams are trash Boise ( ) and that Independent no one has ever heard of Notre Dame. Aren't they like new to I-A or something? Just got a football program?

    Kevin,
I thank you for that. It drives me nuts when I go to every thread interested in the topic just to find more SEC overrated talk, by the same 2 dudes.

This game is going to be the best game this weekend for sure, and it surprises me as well that they weren't there for the AU v LSU game. These are top ten match-ups!!! They deserve the spot light. LSU will face for the second time this season a top ten opponent! As you could see against Miss St. LSU can score quickly. If they did nothing but pass all day I think they could score 100 points. Okay, maybe not that many, but probably. We all know they have the #1 defense in the nation. My pick of course is LSU by 3. If LSU can't get pressure on Leak like they did last year, he will have a big day and it will probably be a high scoring game. Looking forward to this one!

    Tampa Hurricane,

    FSU,

You are right, ACC is pretty boring to watch this year. The game of the year was the first game of the season vs. Miami and that was quite a yawner as well. For some strange reason i don't think the Game Day crew will be going to another ACC game. I would still keep my eye out for VT if I were you though.

If the LSU/Florida game holds true to the current trends, this game will probably be decided by 1 big play and 1 contrevoursial call by the officials. But whatever the case, I'm sure it will be a great game. I don't think the best team in the country lies in the SEC, but I definately think that some of the better teams in the country are found in the SEC and that makes for great match-ups and great football. I'll go with Florida over LSU 24-20. And I have no idea why!

The Mayor, just to let you know its never been PAC vs SEC with me (and its not now). When some SEC fans were hyping their conference by bringing up ~attendence figures~ and stuff like that, Ive interjected to temper that Hype... when someones made an acinine comment about USC and by extention, the PAC, then is when I've responded. And most of it has/had come from the SEC fan-Camp.

This year, at this point in the season, the SEC is the Top conference. I have no reservation about saying that. Same as I had no reservation about saying the SEC was the 5th ranked Conf a year ago.

Anyway, this week looks like "Seperation Saturday part II"...

    Florida (5-0) - LSU (4-1)
    Oregon (4-0) - Cal (4-1)
    Geo (5-0) - Tenese (4-1)
    USC (4-0) - Washington (4-1)
    Wake (5-0) - Clemson (4-1)
    Auburn (5-0) - Arkansas (3-1)
    Mizzu (5-0) - TTech (4-1)

    Tennessee over Georgia
    USC over Washington
    Clemson over Wake Forest
    Missouri over Texas Tech
    Ga Tech over Maryland
    Oklahoma over Texas
    Arkansas over Auburn

Arkansas has had two weeks to prepare and has played some stiff competition already. They'll come to play. Oklahoma has their ears back for this one. California will find a way to choke in the Big Game. Georgia's time has run out. Missouri could be for real. We know Texas Tech can't really be. Florida gets smacked around in this one. Clemson and Georgia Tech are just good teams. They'll both win.

It's not that we actually think that we'll ever conquer your superior mind set - it's just that we think there are other people around the country (who are not smart either) who enjoy the facts also. Now, we realize that the truth is very offensive to certain people in the population. Always has been. But, sadly, me and So Cal and Mayor are just old soldiers who cannot seem to see it any other way. It's sad that we would resort to defending our conference with numbers and examples that are offensive to those who have far superior minds than we have - and cannot even begin to comprehend the sub-human thought processes that we must possess in order to come up with these absurd conclusions.
We'll try real hard in the future to make sure that we never state an obvious conclusion that could hurt somebody's feelings. In fact, I've enrolled in counseling today and am going to do my best to seek treatment for my dreaded disease.

Mayor, post 41.I think the LSU O-Line will have their way with the Florida D-Line.The reason for this is because the Bama O-Line pushed the Florida D-Line around for 2 1/2 quarters of football.Florida won that game.I really think LSU takes this one for many reasons.First,I think LSU has the better O-Line.Second,I think the LSU D-Line is better as well.Third,Jamarcus Russell is underrated and seems to come through in the clutch.Fourth, the LSU defense.I'm not going to try to project a score because in the SEC you never know.I think LSU takes this one.I also think the gators lose to Auburn next week. After that though I don't see Florida losing another one.I see a 10-2 Florida team in the SEC Champ Game.T-Mac

    Tommie,

Ark over AU? Interesting pick. Off the top I don't agree at all, but after thinking about it, ehhh, maybe. My feeling is if AU even half way prepares for Ark they will beat em up. Ark's weapon I guess has been rushing, but wait til they face this fast D line. AU is no joke up front. Ark will have to pass to win this one.

    T-Mac,

Who is your pick for AU v Ark?

Florida will win. they already beat the 2nd best team in the SEC (Alabama)(said in jest). LSU will get beat by 2 scores. Auburn will lose to Florida by 1 score. and auburn will lose to bama by 1 score. thats just how it is my friend.

ya know what sucks?? This PAC 1/SEC debate will never end because well never have a NC or BCS bowl game where well have that matchup. This year its an automatic USC/OSU NC game. next year it will be a USC/Texas NC game. no other PAC teams are good enough to make a BCS game so that possibility is out.

All have their ups and downs but the way Meyers is coaching we are going to see a strong game on Saturday against LSU. It may only be a 1 point win, but a win is a win.

    Mooka:

Just looking for total vindication on this one. I figure Arkansas has had two weeks. I know it's a long shot. But, I have noticed that some of the better games played have happened when the other team has time to prepare. USC made Nebraska look silly with those two weeks. Both Auburn and LSU clobbered Arizona and Wazzou while USC struggled on only one week to prepare. Same for some of Auburn and Georgia's troubles. I don't think that great teams can stay up for every single dog game they have to play. This could be the "trap game" for Auburn - as I think that Arkansas is a better team than South Carolina is. We all knew that Wazzou would give USC trouble last week. The Mayor called it right on the money. So, should Arkansas win the game - my feeling is that all things would be turned back around. It's a stretch or a prayer to say the least. I'd really rather Auburn or Florida run the table though. I think the SEC deserves an unbeaten team playing for the title.

Having watched the AU -LSU game and Auburn having one of the better lines in College Football, The LSU tigers win 31 to 17 (mostly on defensive scores)

    UGA 6.8 ppg
    LSU 7.4
    Auburn 8.2
    UF 9.4

not to mention UT, USC, and Vandy are in the top 35. Playing in a conference when defense reigns is proof that the quality of play is higher and that the style of play corresponds to the NFL. Watching bad teams try and score more points than the other (Pac-10) is so much worse than watching good teams try and stop each other. Where each play and penalty can completely change the game is what its all about. the sec IS college football. no debating it.

Vandy Dandy first off you need to look at who those teams have played. Auburn and LSU have both played 5 games, but has only faced one good opponent, each other. UF has also only faced one good team and Georgia has taken the first 5 weeks of the season off opponent wise. It is going to be interesting to see what these defenses look like when they face college teams instead of the high school teams the SEC likes to face OOC. Second you also need to notice that in total defense they are:
    LSU 1
    UGA 6 tied
    UF 13
    Auburn 17

Gameday has been so Anti-SEC. The SEC has 5 teams in the top 13, 4 in the top 10. The south gets No Respect.

Example: Why does ND get it's own link on the ESPN page. Over-Rated!!!!!!
Lucky comeback over hapless Michigan State. Mmmmmm - sorry, off the topic :)

LSU was conservative in their loss to Auburn. Had the games not been shorted this year their 1st and Goal on the Auburn 4 would have probably ended as a Win.
This time they will not be conservative. LSU over Florida 28 - 10. Even with the Gators highly rated defense.

Something like 15 of 17 games have been played against real substandard competition (Division 1-AA team and whatnot). It doesn't mean anything yet. I'm sure though - that the SEC will lead the country in defense when all is said and done. They will also be last in scoring offense - that's just a bi-product of not being able to score on their own defenses. Games are what matters - not stats.

Not sure why you continue to hate Callahan so much, but he is doing a great job at Nebraska. The players love him and the training environment is very fast, professional, and NFL-like. He has brought in much better players than Nebraska has had in years. As for this week, Iowa State ranks 108th in pass defense and NU ranks 14th in pass offense. Zac Taylor and his stable of ends and receivers will exploit this mismatch big time. Care to wager?

Nebraska's defense shouldn't have a problem here and as long as Calhoun airs the ball out there shouldn't be a problem. My upset pick is UL-Lafayette over Houston. This would be a big win for the Ragin Cajuns, and I think that exaclty what they are hungry for. I might give Tulane the win over Rice too, but who knows? Last one is Memphis over UAB. As for the Kansas over A&M is there something I don't know here?

Not sure what Corso's Torso is talking about. I thought Leak was the leader of the Gator offense. If LSU can't get pressure on Leak he will have a big game. I guess if Tebow can be elusive then maybe I could see why they would consider putting Tebow in, but what kinda coach would put his Freshman in up against the #1 defense in the nation just to get rattled? Leak has got to show his a__ on this one, then he will get some respect from all.

    Tommie,
You are a little more off your rocker than I originally gave you credit for. Know need for me to expound. I'd rather not get into it with you. I'll just leave it at that.

Marcus Thomas, the star defensive lineman is going to play. His suspension was let up. I think this tips the edge to Florida. He got 3 sacks against Tennessee and was the main reason they were held to neagative 11 yards rushing.

What a joke!?!?! Why aren't they at the Oregon Cal game. That is by far the best matchup of the week. I'm sick of all you jerk offs forgetting about the West coast and Pac-10 football. And on top of that, Corso, who doesn't know his head from his ass, loves Cal to death. Espn gameday has turned into a popularity contest, kind of like how they determine the national championship. Why don't you pick the best game for once?

Mooka, post #55.My pick on Ark/Auburn is Auburn all the way.My main reasoning behind that statement is alot of people are calling this a trap-game for Auburn. They get Florida next week. This isn't a trap game for Auburn.Arkansas is from the SEC West.Auburn doesn't have another SEC West opponent until Oct 28th.That's what matters most.Your teams record in the SEC West or East as far as getting to the SEC Champ Game.Auburn will not take them lightly like they did South Carolina.David Irons kept Sidney Rice in check all night in that game.He will do the same with Marcus Monk. The front 4 will take care of McFadden.I'll tell you what the Auburn defense will do.They'll load up 8 and 9 man fronts and make Arkansas throw the ball.Don't be surprised if the Auburn defense gets 2 or 3 int's.T-Mac

Auburn will lose to Alabama. take the thumb and shove it!!!!JPW will be experienced in the toughest football environments in the entire world before heading back home to beat the piss outta the auburn tigers. in fact, im sayin well win by 2 or 3 scores over the tigers. The tigers beat SC by 7 points and BARELY hung on for the win. Alabama is MUCH better than south carolina and ill think youll begin to see that as the season rolls on. A 2006 IRON BOWL VICTORY WILL BE A GREAT WAY TO START OUT FOR OUR 2007 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON!!!! im comin back to this post just so i can say "i told ya so"

    CFB_CRZY: ,
I do agree on the fact that LSU is upset-minded, but without one of their best O-Linemen and the return of our beloved DT (Marcus Thomas)
our dangerously agressive passrush is at full throttle and i think it will be too much for the Tigers. Look for Damarcus Russell to choke and thow errant passes.
Its going to be a low-scoring game but, look for Florida and Chris Leak to pull it off with the go-ahead score sometime in the fourth quarter.

I pick Florida over LSU. I know that LSU has a very good defence but I dont think they can stop the Gator offence and Florida has a good defence as well. Plus they are playing in the Swamp a very hard place for any team to win, its going to be a good game.
By the way, Corso's torso what makes you think "A Two-Quarterback System will never work" it has worked pretty good so far. You have the best of both worlds with Tebo and Leak.

Here is a great fun fact for all the SEC faithful - just in case they get to play against Ohio State for a National Championship:

Since 1978 through 2002 or the present day - Ohio State is 1-8-1 against SEC competition! That is remarkable! The SEC owns Ohio State along with USC. More fuel for my assumption that the glorious Buckeye team will not make it out of this year alive!

FLA actually cut this dudes suspension so he could play agianst LSU? Wow. Desperation hunh? That's okay. I think FLA is good this year, but we finally get to see if they are a deserving #5. I think LSU is the true #2. That #1 defense will rip into FLA once again. We'll see if LSU can get a run game together. Ahhh, if only I was coach. Hester and Broussard; I-formation all day long. Pounding those counters and dives, but no. We get Justin Vincent tip toeing to the scrimmage line. I gotta feeling LSU will need to establish some sort of running game as FLA might be expecting pass. If that happens, LSU wins by 3(touchdowns that is).

7 AU has the best D in the SEC
This is where you completely lost it. Arkansas just ran all over your vaunted defense. McFadden is still running. If the referees in the LSU game had been more accurate LSU would have won 21-7 or so and dominated in the stats. Don't believe me? The announcers of the game and the guys back in the studio all said that that games was horribly called.

NOW After we make ya'll Bleed Crimson then come back and say YOU WERE RIGHT
You might win. You might not. Who knows? Certainly not you since you were just praising your defense but today they gave up 27 points and Brandon Cox was gettingsacked left and right.

This game today between UF and LSU looks to be a good one. I think LSU is a better team and it is a shame for them that poor refereeing at The Jungle cost them their chance to be undefeated.

As for #3 in the nation I think it's a toss up between 3 teams Michigan, WVU, and USC. I also see Arkansas as a legitimate top 10 team with a healthy McFadden. T-Mac, why don't you look at who USC has beaten
Arkansas (#17), Nebraska (#21), Washington St (4-2) and Washington (4-2). Their only worthless opponenet so far has been Arizona, which is still better competition than the Mississippi St and Buffalo's of the world.

What you should be asking is why West Virginia is ranked so high. The have not played one decent opponent yet (maybe Maryland, but that's a stretch).

Here would be my top 10:
    1. Ohio St
    2. Florida
    3. Michigan
    4. USC
    5. Tennessee
    6. California
    7. Notre Dame
    8. Texas
    9. Louisville
    10. W Virginia

I have California above Notre Dame and Texas as their lone loss was on the road. But mark my words, Cal will beat USC in Los Angeles come November.

I went to the Oregon / California game...nothing worse than hearing 60,000 Cal fans chanting "over-rated" throughout the 4th quarter. No biggie, I've heard it before.

Props to Tedford, he could have gone for one more score for rankings fodder, but he ran out the clock on my hapless defense at game's end.

Not a good day for the Ducks, 4 turnovers and a punt return...that was the difference.

    T-Mac,

If 'SC's win over Arkansas doesn't count for anything, than why does Tennesee over Cal still hold so much weight? You can't have it both ways. Either admit that 'SC beat the team that beat Auburn, and by virtue of that logic, give them credit, or you need to stop saying that Tennessee over Cal validates anything.

Cal is a different team than the one Tennesee beat, having dominated their opponents by more than 21 ppg. Tennessee, on the other hand, lost to Florida, had a 1 pt. squeaker against Air Force, and had to come from behind to beat a Georgia team was 44 seconds away from giving winless Colorado a W.

Make up your mind, either both count, neither count, or you are a hypocrite who doesn't care so long as it doesn't impact your skewed little world.

THIS IS A GREAT POST SO READ IT.

Haha so i guess i AM right. well i guess Auburns not some unstoppable force this year after all. like ive been saying since the beginning of the season, Auburn is not goin undefeated. The SEC team with the best chance of goin undefeated is Florida. That offense theyve got in Gainesville is unbelieveable and i never thought id say that about a spread option in my life. Florida's defense is the question though. Any team that beats Florida will have to have a brilliant offense unlike any ive seen thus far in the SEC and have to be ready for a shootout. But look for Auburn havin two shots to beat florida this year so that will make it even harder for them to go undefeated.

This year we could very easily have a 3-way tie between USC, winner of the OSU/Michigan game, and Florida. Haha, and guess what, Yet again, the SEC team gets screwed!!! O well i guess ill have to get used to that with the BCS in place.

USC is an automatic bid for the NC game this year. While theyre not a #1 or #2 team this year that doesnt and will never matter with them. The only thing that matters to USC is whether they are better than Notre Dame or not. So basically this year they can completely blow. There is nooooo possibility of ND winning this year.

The big question is who will be #2??? Well, the answer is simple, the winner of the game between the big 2. Ohio State vs. Michigan. That is the only game those two teams need to focus on for the rest of the season because that is the only true game they will play.

Here are the conferences that will play in the NC game every year until the BCS is removed: Pac 1, Big II, and the Big Two. That is all, everyone else should just quit. The two biggest BCS BS conferences are the Pac 1 and the Big II. Well just think about it...2003: USC and Oklahoma undefeated, 2004: USC and Oklahoma undefeated, 2005: USC and Texas undefeated, 2006: USC AND THANK GOD TEXAS HAS A OOC RIVALRY WITH THE #2 TEAM IN THE NATION, AND THAT THE PAC 10 HAS MORE CROOKED REFS THAN NEW ORLEANS HAS CROOKED COPS

god i love bein right. i posted this following auburns narrow victory over SC.

Oh great, LSU plays the worst game in history and now we have to hear about how great the Gators are. They out played LSU, no doubt, but I wouldn't give them #2 yet. I would def give that to Michigan. Michigan is ready to roll anybody in their path, and I believe they will beat Ohio St.
This was the first time this year I got to see Tebow play. I am impressed to say the least. FLA has some special things going on, and I think they are on the cusp for #2, or maybe even #1. Let's see how they do against AU though.
