Conventional Wisdom: Week Five
Week 5Date: 9/22/2004
CW took last week off on account of Hurrican Ivan, but we're back in action this week to bring you the ups and downs of college football... and there are plenty to go around.

| Coach Amato | ![]() |
Under Amato, NC State hasn't won 20% of their games against Top 10 teams and after a week off, the Wolfpack was a mess against Ohio State. As if that weren't enough, what's up with the glasses? |
| Arizona | ![]() |
...and by that, CW means the ENTIRE STATE. Arizona gives Wisconsin a run for their money and Arizona State pulls off the upset of the week, knocking off Iowa. It's a dry heat. |
| Coach Croom | ![]() |
Miss State Coach and media darling Sylvester Croom's honeymoon in Starkville is over. Losing to D-IAA Maine is inexcusable for MSU, period, not to mention the self-righteous indignation and "told ya so" exuding from Alabama that you can probably feel all the way to Scott Field. |
| Alabama | ![]() |
Big win against D-IAA opponent Western Carolina, but lost third-year starting QB Brodie Croyle in the effort. The Tide is looking nervously to back-up Marc Gullion who transfered from Miami. Take heart, 'Bama fans, Miami doesn't recruit second tier Quarterbacks. |
| Michigan | ![]() |
A loss to the golden domers and a near miss versus San Diego State does not bode well for the Wolverines, and despite the Hawkeye's performance against ASU (or maybe because of it), this Saturday won't be a cake walk either. |
| The AARP | ![]() |
Score one for Holtz and the Columbia, SC area nursing homes where he's been recruiting. 39 year-old WR Tom Frisby has been cleared by the NCAA to play for the Gamecocks pending an additional physical... to make sure his hip doesn't go out. |
| Indiana | ![]() |
BCS conference team or not, when you get blown out by Kentucky, something is very, very wrong. |
