ESPN GameDay features USC-Cal

So ESPN GameDay is going to Los Angeles this weekend for the California-USC game...

It's not like it's a bad choice. USC is currently number one in the country, and California is ranked 7th. The Golden Bears were the last team that defeated the Trojans, too – in last year's USC-California showdown in Berkeley. So there's likely to be some high drama just because of that fact. And the GameDay show is all about the crowd as well – and with the 92,000-seat Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum sold out for this game, there's likely to be plenty of good crowd moments for the ESPN cameramen to capture. (You can check out a gallery of GameDay moments from earlier in the season on the GameDay site.)

But is the California-USC matchup a bigger game than this weekend's OU-Texas, Tennessee-Georgia or Florida State-Syracuse? (Okay, we'll concede that last one.)

Some asked ESPN GameDay commentator Lee Corso that very question: "Why'd you pick the California-USC game?" over on the GameDay site. His response? "The reason the administration did it is because we haven’t been out to the PAC 10 a lot. You know, we go to all kinds of games all over the country, but we rarely find a PAC 10 game that has national significance. This is one versus eight or something like that, and this is the number one defending champion playing against the team that beat them last year. It’s... the biggest game in years on the West Coast and that’s why I think the administration picked USC and California. Because it was just one of those games you just dream about having, and you don’t want to miss it."

Course, people asked Corso about Oklahoma, Tennessee and all of this week's other big matchups too... I don't think they asked him a Florida State-Syracuse question, though.

The live broadcast on ESPN begins at 10:30 a.m. ET direct from Los Angeles and the USC campus. The California-USC game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET.

If you can't get enough of Corso, you can also send a voicemail from Corso to your friends from the GameDay site – or compare your predictions to his predictions (and win prizes) in the Scotts Perfect Picks contest.

USC-CAL is one of the most exciting match ups
of the year. USC has yet to be humbled and CAL is steam rolling. Over the last 2 years USC has been better than any other. A triple overtime loss to CAL last year was their only blemish, unlike any other team one can argue for. USC vs. CAL for
    GameDay? ABSOLUTELY!
