Corso and West Lafayette
Miami escaped a hungry Louisville team last night who reminded us that on any given Saturday Thursday, any team can lose... but the uncertainty of the game doesn't keep ESPN's Lee Corso from making his picks and donning the head of the mascott. This week The Coach has some interesting insight at Scotts Perfect Picks.
We all know that GameDay is going to be in West Lafayette for the Wisconsin/Purdue game, which will pit Purdue's top-5 offense against the best defense in the country and Lee will take sides in that match-up on Saturday morning live from the campus of Purdue University, but the other picks (linked above) should be enough to hold you over until then.
Being an SEC man, I was interested to see that, while still picking the Volunteers, Corso noted that Ole Miss has a chance for an upset and he also made the safe pick of USC over ASU, but said it should be close. You can see how you stack up to Lee and the football prognosticators at Scotts Perfect Picks -- there are prizes to be won, not to mention finally being able to prove to everyone that you ARE smarter than Corso.
GameDay's Bus Driver Bobby has an interesting bit of commentary on this weekend's trip:
Looks like things could get pretty crazy in West Lafayette this weekend. Not only is GameDay making an inaugural visit to Purdue, but SportsCenter AND ESPN2’s Cold Pizza are both filming on Friday. I’m guessing the whole town will show up for this weekend’s festivities. And, obviously, we’re going to have a great show ready for them.
Now, I've only been there once, but as best I can recall, West Lafayette is pretty much the worst city in existance to have a major college football game in. There is, for all intents and purposes one major road into the city, and one major road out. Before, and especially after, the game those roads are packed. For hours and hours and hours. At the rate things will probably go, those of you going to the game might just want to buy tickets to next week's game against Michigan and stick around. It'll probably be Thursday before you get out of town anyway.

Getting in and out of West Lafayette is no biggie, as long as you don't follow all of the lemmings out on 26 (the main east-west drag). I'd argue that pound for pound, getting in and out of Madison, Wisconsin is the toughest gig in the Big Ten. (So is, apparently, getting a win off of their team no matter where they seem to be playing.)
