Dear Santa,
As A Canes fan....I want some 4 & 5 star athletes under my tree that keep their grades up, beat out the slackers already on the roster, and truly understand what it means to wear the helmet of the 5 time National Champions. Santa, I'll keep my gifts wrapped until February signing day.
Merry Christmas To All.
Rest In Peace Uncle Ted, Bryan Pata, Sean Taylor.

May Kevin and his constituents continue this web site. (Thanks Kev!!!)
May everyone be and remain healthy and happy.
May every player give it there all.
May every game go down to the wire.
May it truly be the better team that wins.
May there be no losers, either in defeat or in victory.
May there not be one single game where-by the outcome hinged on a blown call.
May T-Mac rush for over 1500 yards, and learn he doesn't always have to use the carriage return.
My I finally learn how to use brevity.
May every HC and every member of her/his staff realize, it's not about the money; it's about the challenge; not in winning games, but in developing young men & women into tomorrow's leaders.
May everyone recognize, this really is just a game, and no matter what the outcome, the sun will rise tomorrow.
AND, may God bless you and keep this Christmas, every Christmas, throughout the New Year, and throughout the many New Years to come!!!

Merry Christmas to all members of fanblogs! This is by far my favorite website and its good to see it up and running into the new year. OU-Ron and Lennie Collins, what are your thoughts on the losses of Reggie Smith and Lendie Holmes? Thats a major blow to the secondary and I'm sure the coaches of West Virginia will factor those losses into their offensive gameplan. BOOMER SOONER!

OU Fan, our secondary will be hurt by the loss no doubt, the other guy's are going to have to step up. I think our D line and LB's are going to have to keep a lot of pressure on White and hope our offense can score more than theirs. It should be a great game. Hope you and your family has a great Christmas and New Year...GO SOONERS

What's the deal regarding the loss of 2 in the OK 2ndary? How did this happen? I don't like it! I want a full strength OK playing a full strength WVU. I don't want people making excuses; OK beat WVU because they lost their coach; WVU beat OK because they lost 2 in the 2ndary. Look at the stats; look at the schedules. These are 2 very well matched teams. Differing styles on both offense & defense, but well matched none-the-less. I sincerely believe OK & WVU will put on the best show.
Lennie, what are your keys to victory for both teams? Who is OK playing in their 4th game in 2008 that worries you so much???

Zac, Comment #13, West Virginia has to pass/throw the ball to beat Oklahoma. I feel that Oklahoma defense has to defend the pass more than the run. If I am not mistaken White was hurt in that last game against Pittsburgh. I feel that West Virginia losing to Pittsburgh then losing their head coach is too much of a distraction. Oklahoma plays Cincinnati, Washington, and Texas Christian for their 2008 non-conference. Sources say a D-1A opponent decided they did not want to play Oklahoma and cancel the game. Oklahoma AD claims no D-1A wants to play Oklahoma so he is looking for a D-1AA opponent to play. That is lame there are 119 D-1A programs and you can't find one?

I wonder if that was Buffalo. They did the same thing to WVU last year.
There've been a couple of schedule re-adjustments pulled off. For example, Clemson & Pitt mutually agreed to cancel a scheduled game. Why not have your AD canvas the Big East and see if any of the other teams, Rutgers, S FL, UConn, heck even Syracuse wanna drop somebody in favor of OK. If other schools can make it happen, OK should be able to make it happen.

jrock, it is my medical diagnosis that they are what we call stupid (also can be referred to as coondawg syndrome). You see, since Hawaii didn't really play anyone that was good (Boise kinda went down the tubes in their bowl), they believe that that is what the rest of the college football teams will be like. Don't get overconfident, though, occasionally the people with stupid will get lucky and then they believe that they deserve the national title. Just my opinion, of course. Merry Christmas to all, and to all don't catch coondawg syndrome.

With ASU on the TX 14, and ASU's QB back to pass, he was in the process of being sacked, Big Time. ASU's QB lost control of the ball, and tossed what amounted to a backward lateral. Most of the officials, save one, and players for both teams acted as if play had been stopped. However, no whistle had blown; the ball was live, and precariously headed for the sideline, where a TX assistant thought to be helpful by picking up the ball. He never did, as he realized, presumably in time, that the ball was live and pulled his hand away. Eventually, the play was ruled a fumble, which TX had recovered (already leading 21-0).
Upon further review, it was determined he had touched the ball. Folks, I saw every angle they provided. It was close; I'll grant you. I don't think there is a human alive capable of saying with any certainty that the TX assistant actually touched the ball.
Not only was the call reversed, but a penalty was assessed against TX for the assistant having touched a live ball. Fans, we have entered unprecedented territory for play review. I have never seen a penalty called on either a player or a team after a review. If they're going to start doing that, they had darn well start calling them all. Otherwise, this thing called the Referee's Union is in for one hellaciouslly tangled legal mess.

elreh, Mussberger actually said that OSU would be in the national title game 2 years in a row, not back to back champs (kinda hard to do since they didn't win it last year). He also said something about OSU possibly being the first team to get 2 BCS national titles (same for LSU). Not sure which one you're talking about but I did not hear him say anything about them back to back national champions.

Zac, just to clarify, even though it isn't that big of a deal, it was Chris Jesse (not sure about spelling, I assume it's right), Mack Brown's stepson, who "touched" the ball. He is on the staff, but I believe that is mainly because of his relation to the coach. Anyone can try to convince me that he touched it, but it is just a waste of their time. How can they know that he touched it when the flight of the ball isn't changed and they don't have the right angle to see the distance between his hand and the ball?

OU-Ron (Post 54), it’s cool.
Bevo Boy (Post 49), touched a point I meant to make last night. Was the direction or motion of the ball disrupted? The answer is no; or more accurately, not that can be detected.
As the ball approached Chris Jesse’s hand, and as Chris originally reached for it, his thumb was pointing into the field of play, or perpendicular to the side-line. The ball had already changed direction, moving parallel to the side-line before it got to his hand. Had Chris made contact with the ball, or vise-verse, at least one of 3 things would have happened: 1) His thumb would have moved; it did not. 2) The direction of the ball would have moved; it did not. 3) The rotation of the ball would have changed; this did not appear to happen either.
As the ball was moving toward his left hand, the nose of the ball closest to the side-line was pointing at an angle upward, roughly 20-30 degrees above horizontal and moving further upward. As the ball closed in, he pulled his hand back, thumb still extended. Had his thumb and ball made contact, the momentum of the nose of the ball closest to the side-line would have been impeded; it would have slowed down. As there was nothing in contact with the nose of the ball pointing into the field, its momentum would not have been changed, preferring to continue. This would have resulted in a slight rotation of the ball along the vertical; its path should have been realigned more toward the side-line. This did not happen.
Now, here’s what really bothers me. A call was made on the field giving TX the ball following the play. The play, then, went under review. As I understand the rules of re-play review, “There must be indisputable evidence to over-turn the call made on the field.” Where was this indisputable evidence, where-by beyond a shadow of a doubt, it was determined the play should be over-turned?
Then, there was the question how they over-turned it. Chris’ alleged “act” neither impacted the motion of the ball, nor impeded the progress of any player from either team to make a play on the ball. If anything, it was the inaction of every referee, save one, which actually caused that. Yet, ASU got the ball back 4th and 3??? I don’t get it.
Chris Jesse, you’re alright by me. Your name shall forever be etched into the annals of college football history. Oh, almost forgot, 40Acres of Burnt Orange, Bevo Boy, Tomcat, and company, Congrats!!!
Lennie, OU-Ron, WVU_Lifer (Post 58), WVU will have to maintain offensive pressure (keep scoring), and constantly apply pressure to Sam Bradford AND blanket his receivers. Only one team was able to apply sufficient scoring pressure (TX Tech) and another managed just enough defense (CO). WVU will have to do more than both. That's just how I see it.

lifer: It seems to me that you are getting first hand the distinction between West Virginia fans who didn't attend the school and fans who did.
The type of behavior you're describing is typically perpetrated by fans who don't have the school's name on their sheepskin. Alumni generally have some awareness of the damage being done to the university's reputation when childish acts like those are committed, and they have no interest in debasing their institution further.
If you're asking me if there's a difference in quality of fan in respects to being an alumnus or not, I'd say no. The difference in quality between fans to me is between the fans who occasionally attend games in person as opposed to those who only watch on TV.

One of the things that I'm most proud of about my 'Canes is that they're never scared to play anyone.
The best was when they responded to the 2003 Fiesta Bowl by getting a home-and-home with Ohio State as soon as possible.
I think next year's schedule is great, especially that rare game with the Gators. Looking forward to making the trip up to Gainesville for that one, no doubt.
By the way, the 'Canes couldn't find a quality opponent to fill the spot left open when they dropped North Texas. That spot got filled by 1-AA Charleston Southern recently - my only hope is that they don't make that the home opener, as that would be a boring way to open up Dolphin Stadium.

For FLA, that HI, MIA, and TN opening gig looks pretty tough to me. If they get past that without a loss, I will definitely start gearing up for a big showdown in Jacksonville.
For The Ohio State, the toughest games are USC, which they will lose, and Troy (yeah, I mean that, Troy).
Oklahoma needs to beat TX and they are in the Big Game. They should easily win the rest of their games.
The DAWGS have it pretty nasty after against 1-AA Georgia Southern and Central Michigan. @Carolina, @Ariz St, Bama, Vols, @LSU, FLA, @AU. They have the team to win all those, but we will see if they can do it.
USC--Always in the running for the big game. Can they get it back to the undefeated status. They really can't afford any loses with that schedule to make it to the Big Game.
Just my take that top 25 preview.
But, my team still has a game left so I will get my mind back on this season. 2 days and I head to New Orleans!GO DAWGS!!

Of course, it might be risky for me to travel that far and not have tickets in fist, but in 23 seasons of attending cfb games, I've never been shut out of finding a ticket. I've always found one, although some were very last minute.
I've bought conterfeit tickets before, too, and have been close to being thrown out (luckily I was at Auburn and they told us to just go find somewhere to stand) I've been scalped at home and have bought tickets at face value away.
What really screwed up getting tickets was the advent of ebay, and later, craigslist and now stubhub. In the old days, if you wanted to see a game in person and didn't have tickets prior, the only alternative was to travel to the game and buy from the scalpers. Doing that was a bit unsavory for most, and as a result, not many would do it--leaving plenty of tickets out there.
If you thought scalpers were high, being to buy them online in the secondary market now has driven up prices 100% in my estimation. Prior to 2001, I never paid $60 for any one ticket, be it at home or away, bowl game or not. Two years ago, I had to pay $200 each for 35 yard line seats for LSU. Since online reselling debuted, the simplicity of finding tickets has demand soaring, leaving price naturally to soar as well.
Makes you wonder why schools don't charge $200 face value for a ticket if that's what they're bringing in the secondary market. Folks who buy season tickets--well, we all know that they pay a lot more in some cases for the priviledge of buying those tickets--I don't have a problem with them asking a premium for their seats. Maybe the schools feel the same way and let's it be...

Bevo Baby (#84):
>>What do you guys think of these early bird rankings by nationalchamps.net?
1. Ohio State
2. Oklahoma
3. Florida
4. Georgia
5. Southern California
6. Missouri
7. Louisiana State
8. Virginia Tech
9. Kansas
10. Clemson
11. West Virginia
12. Texas Tech
13. Illinois
14. Texas
15. Wisconsin
16. Tennessee
17. Auburn
18. Arizona State
19. South Florida
20. Penn State
21. Connecticut
22. Virginia
23. Boise State
24. Florida State
25. Ball StateA couple of these choices seem questionable to me, so I was wondering what you guys thought.
Well I for one don't like Clemson starting in the Top 10. I don't want anyone to see them coming. :-)I do believe that Kansas and Missouri's respective bubbles will burst, but they should be included this highly in pre-season.
Texas Tech being anywhere here is a surprise, but at #12?
Florida State at #24? I see them ending up in the Top 25, but I'm not certain they should be ranked in the pre-season.
I don't know enough about Ball State to criticize their ranking, but it still seems strange to see them here.
As far as #1 and #2 though, since that's all that so many people care about for some reason, I can't complain about Ohio State and Oklahoma.
Look what parity has done to us :-)

SEC 2-0 BABY!!
6 games to go.
Was T-Mac the only person who was sick to death of hearing about the Colorado Coach and his son ALL GAME LONG????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Hell, it got about like Leave it to Beaver at one point.
This Bowl game for Bama was much like the Arkansas game.
Bama jumped out early and brought it, but let up and got comfortable.
Those commentators are idiots.
They bashed JP Wilson all of the second half.
This guy threw for 260 yards and 3 TD'S/ 1 int.
Last time T-Mac checked, when a QB has those numbers that is a pretty good game.
You never hear about the rec's dropping passes in CFB.
In CFB it is alway's the QB for some reason.
The Bama ground game wasn't exactly stellar either.
Bama fans better be thankful that JP Wilson was at the controls!!!
Wilson should break/hold all passing records at Bama next season.
He is an underrated QB who has never gotten any credit at all.
Hell, at one point the announcers were talking about him playing baseball and he threw for 260 and 3 TD's.
Much Props to the Alabama defense.
Played lights out all game, but the secondary gave up a few plays.
Alabama should/will be a force in the 08 season!
National Champ Game,
LSU-30 Ohio State-20
Go SEC BABY!!!
T-Mac will post when he can.

#106 Reagan. As far as i can see, this pre0season top 25 is messed up. Take #11, How can a team with nary a coaching prospect be in the top 25? Yes, we have a boatlaod of talent, but the ship must have a captain. OSU, very possible, just like every year. What can i say about my neighboring Buckeyes, talent, coaching, tradition... hate em, lol. KANSAS, 1 good season doesnt merrit an auto top 25 spot. Sorry, but15 is always overrated, and they were digging when they pulled Ball St out of the hat... my thoughts.
#107 Does T-Mac always speak in third person? I agree LSU will win the Champ, but all i have to say is.........it should be WVU but isn't!! Som all i can say is WVU 38 Dawgs 35, but that was last year or no, we beat the other GA school last year!wvu_lifer

Let me ask y'all something: When Nehlen retired, did you run around in a zombie state untill he found a replacement...NO!! When Rod was announced as the new head coach, the general reaction of the state was "who is this guy". Talk about not remembering your own! So, what is the big deal now? The way he left? The fact that he left at all? Aw, no more Big East titles? Get back on with your lives, we'll be fine! I hate to say it, but denying "R2" as he is now called would be denying our state motto. "Mountaineers are always free"!! So, was he not free, should we change our motto? NO!! I like what's going on about as well as the next person......but i, like the rest of us Mountaineers will survive. Let's just talk about what a great game we have coming up against a great opponent, get behind our team and hoot and hooler for 'em to win!!OU-Ron

OU-Ron, heck of game between OK & WVU (BB). That Frosh C of yours is AWSOME, BABY!!! He can really throw the rock down, and keep the opposition to the adage, "Thou shalt not enter thy lane." To think, you guys have him for 3 more seasons.
I don't know what it is, but WVU always seems to put a really decent guard and decent forward on the floor, but they've never been able to land a really good C. (Wouldn't it be funny if the Fiesta Bowl goes to 2 OT's.)
So, somebody's already posted next season's "pre-season" top 25, and of all places, WVU is ranked 11th. ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS!!! Why back in my RAF days...
Ahem, not gonna happen in their 1st year with a new Head Coach, new system, new vision, new style of play, etc. Besides, we've all said it, by now, hundreds of times. It's fun to speculate, but the only rankings that matter are those that come out on Jan. 8th.
Jrock (Post 81), going to the Sugar Bowl is never lose/lose, except in 2005, when it was in Atlanta and the Dawgs played WVU. That was only one game. This is a new game against those foot-stompin, Haka dancin, big thavage, Rainbow Warriorth, hmmm. Have your team pretend they're WVU Mountaineers. There will be no lose/lose!!! Best of luck, all the same.

Regan #106, first of all, what's with the insult, man? What did I do to you? Are you one of those fans who just hates Texas and so you try to make fun of their fans to the point where you pull on a guy's scrotum until you see blood gushing down his leg and he is forced to get 60 stitches (I'm not really sure what team you even like, though it sounds like Clemson)?
And for FSU, if you see them as strong enough to be a top 25 team, why do you have a problem with them starting there?
Finally, with BSU, look at my post #88, that should help you understand why BSU is up that high.

you need to lay off that JP pipe your smoking.
JP was horrible in the second half and the Bama Pass defence got smoked. After a great start 13-15 for 185 yards and 3 touchdowns he was a miserable 6-16 for 71 yards. If you pressure JP he falls apart much like a certain Brandon Cox.
Not going to get it done against tougher competion.
Now the player of the game for Alabama was Wallace Gilberry, he was man amoung boys. The freshman Cody Hawkins far out played Wilson after a very sluggush start.
Bamas Defensive line won that game for them. They shut the outside run of Colorado down. But JP was midiocre at best.

Zac post #114, the OU-WVU basketball game was incredible. Not only was it a good game but it was a great win for the Sooners on the road in a hostile environment. Now if they(the Sooners) could not turn the ball over as much and make free throws would the sky be the limit. OU-Ron, I think the Fiesta Bowl will be closer than what most people think. I saw on ESPN that 84% of America thought Oklahoma would beat West Virginia. I'm an Oklahoma fan and I think this game will be closer than what most people think. For some reason, Stoops and Co. know how to take care of business during the regular season against tough, high ranked opponents but come bowl time, its like they come unprepared. I hope they prove me wrong. BOOMER SOONER!

Well you cant handle the truth either. Truth is the best offensive player of that game isnt on the Alabama team.
Its Devree from Colorado. Doubt they would give it to the losing team but he was awsome.

JP Wilson, PASSING 256 YDS, RUSHING 25 YDS.
JP Wilson, TOTAL OF 281 YDS.
AUtigerman, 281 yds of offense is FAR from mediocre my friend!
You have much to learn about the game of FB.
AUtigerman, riddle T-Mac this.
Who would YOU rather have at the controls, Brandon Cox or JP Wilson???
AUtigerman, don't be a homer bro, be honest!

JP dosent have enough years of eligibilty left to win half as many games as Brandon won.
If Bama dosent wake up and relize that JP cant get it done they will go no better then 7 wins again next year.

Autigerman I'm not an SEC fan but I would think that now would be the time to pull for your conference and stop hating.
Someone needs to teach you the basics of football. You seem to have trouble understanding what you see and what you read.
This is your quote about the offensive player of the game:
Truth is the best offensive player of that game isnt on the Alabama team.
Its Devree from Colorado.
This is ESPN's quote:
"We had some ups and downs tonight but we kept our composure," said John Parker Wilson, named the game's most valuable offensive player after the Tide's 30-24 victory over Colorado.
Someone is in a terrible blue and orange fog.
Grow up dude and stop hating teams in your conference during the bowl season.

AUtigerman, with all due respect.
T-Mac means that sincerely.
Brandon Cox in NO WAY won that bowl game.
The Freshman QB Burns did brother!!!
AUtigerman, had Burns not played in that game, Auburn has a loss.
Period.
You say JP can't get it done.
Lets do a quick comparison on the QB's.
Brandon Cox being a FIFTH YEAR SENIOR.
JP Wilson being a JUNIOR.
Keep in mind AUtigerman that Wilson didn't play his Freshman year due to a Senior named Brodie Croyle who is now an NFL QB for the Kansas City Chiefs!!!
In the Alabama Bowl game, JP Wilson had 281 yards, 3 TD's and 1 INT.
In the Auburn Bowl game, Brandon Cox had 211 yards, NO TD's and 1 INT.
AUtigerman, the stats speak for themselves brother!
There is No comparing JP Wilson to B Cox.
T-Mac is not hating.
T-Mac is educating.
In the 4-5 years Cox has played at Auburn he has tallied 6,888 yards.
In the 2 years Wilson has played at Alabama he has tallied 5,616 yards.
Now, T-Mac thinks it is safe to say that JP Wilson will hold all the Bama passing records next season.
AUtigerman, you better thank your lucky stars that Auburn had a Freshman QB that played in the Bowl game named Burns.
Without Burns, Auburn doesn't win.
You know it, T-Mac knows it, and so does everybody else brother!!!
T-Mac's question is this.
Where was Burns all season while Cox was throwing INT's and getting sacked???
After the 2008 season JP Wilson will either be playing pro FB or Baseball.
Brandon Cox better start investing in Real Estate brother!!!
T-Mac has to shoot some fireworks.
T-Mac will post when he can.

Look, you can't say someone is that stupid because they disagree with you on something that is entirely dependent on your OPINION. Both players played an excellent game (though JPW is held to a higher standard being a qb at a bigger school). However, with greater expectations comes greater rewards when you do better. Overall, I think leading the team to a W gets it for JPW, but Devree played well and you can't deny him that.
West Coast Willie, just because someone names you the MVOP doesn't necessarily mean you had the best game, it almost always goes to the best offensive player of the WINNING team, even if they are outshined by someone on the losing team.Autigerman said:
